Pleased to see him on there, really think he deserves it. Surprised at the likes of Iker Casillas and Eric Abidal though. Dont' think they've done a great deal to warrant being on there. Wouldn't mind Jurgen Klopp winning the manager award. He's worked wonders with Dortmund.
abidal being on the list proves these awards are really not up to much. in the end like the rugby union word player its a political game and abidal though brave and all that about his cancer... he's no more of a player in terms of world class than i am!
Football awards rarely go to the players/managers that deserve them,a prime example of this was Houlier(a treble of cups)was voted second best in the FA manager of the year award. The prize that year went to Craig Burley for gaining promotion to the Prem which had never happened before or since,even the PFA player of the year is flawed by the voting taking place in mid-season. Anyway Suarez was worth a mention in the Ballon d'OR award for his part in his nations victory in Copa America(and being player of the tournament)even though he wont win it.
Burley got it cos Ipswich finished 5th in their début season. He took them back down soon after though. Didn't Houllier actually win 5 cups in total that year, the Super Cup and the Charity Shield too? I know they don't count as official cups, but it's still silverware, and you've got to have won something to be entered for either.
Your right about Burley mate(my bad),but has a manager who has'nt won the title or cup/s ever won the manager of the year award before or since? My point is purely that these awards are in the main not worth a carrot due to what motivates the people that choose the winners.
Harry Redknapp? Usually it's whoever wins the league, Burley and Redknapp being the only two not to do so, I think. Which makes it even stranger that if they weren't going to give it to whoever won the league, they gave it to Burley rather than a guy who won several cups. Shows a lack of imagination really. A lot of managers achieve great things with smaller clubs, which goes unrecognised (aside from Burley, to Houllier's loss) because a manager with a great team does what is expected of them and wins the league. Ferguson has won it loads of times, which I suppose is fair enough, but he's got that many I don't think he'd begrudge someone else winning it even if he'd won the league.
Im not really arsed about his handball in the WC or biting an opponent in Holland,is'nt this years Ballon d'OR award based on the last 12 months? He got a nomination for his Copa America performances end of. But he wont win it anyway mate.
