The guy is an idiot for what he did yesterday, but I think there's a bigger picture. Evra will get some brickbats for his response at the end of the match but let's face it he was heavily provoked following an offering of a hand that was refused. But the Club is at fault too. Getting all the players to wear Suarez T shirts in an earlier match, and Dalglish's rounding on Guy Mowbray of Sky who was asking legitimate questions after the game are symptomatic of this problem. If the Manager has that attitude then it's little wonder that Suarez thinks he's got a licence not to draw a line under things. If there's any justice the FA will further sanction Suarez and his Manager. I see the FA is already suggesting the owners intervene which is unprecedented and tells us that they think Dalglish is part of the problem. I agree. Do you?
Actually Aussie I have to say yes I agree 100% ! It's been a mess from start to finish. Suarez obviously thinks he's done no wrong so perhaps it's time for someone to teach him that racism is not tolerated in the UK.
Surarez learned nothing while banned , I'd sit him down for a few more games with his antics yesterday . If I owned the team , he'd be gone !!
Liverpool have pretty much encouraged his behaviour, and it's sick. Dalglish needs to take a long, hard look at himself now, because he's been the one protecting him, and I think until now he's just assumed he's impervious to it, that it didn't matter. Now it looks like he's backed a neighing, volatile steed who no-one likes or respects and he's got a tough decision coming up in the summer!
Thing is, why is Suarez so famous? What's he done to warrant this massive reputation he came with? Only thing I can see is he scored goals in a joke league, commanded a huge transfer off the back of a criminal bit of cheating in the World Cup, and has since been at best "good" on the pitch, which doesn't warrant the media circus around him even disregarding all the racism stuff. Him and Carroll are, I was thinking last night, going to go down in history as two examples of "when football got crazy" when we're looking back in the future, reminiscing about how transfer fees became bonkers before it all came crashing down...
Fair point Scott. The guy has talent for sure, but the way he 'simulates' makes me sick to my stomach. Think he tried it on against us at Anfield but I may be wrong. He's a cheat through and through, and I've gone from admiring him as a player to disliking him intensely. As for Dalglish, I was appalled yesterday when he had a go at Mowbray for asking perfectly proper questions. He is definitely part of the problem imo. Can you imagine Suarez doing that under Ferguson?
Well I for one have to disagree with you and the papers, but especially SAF. Now we are all entitled to our opinions, and having been the brunt of many racist remarks over the years (purely for being Welsh!!!!), I find the comments written and said no different from what Suarez actually did in the first place. If you had been found guilty of a 'crime', and served your penalty, would you be happy to 'see the person' you were accused of assaulting? Why should he 'shake his hand'? Why didn't they make John terry 'shake hands'? This guy, right or wrong, has a choice in which he obviously had made his mind up on his actions. FA can not take sides in this matter. The first (almost) tackle of the game saw two defenders try to take him out!!! Suarez did not make his team mates wear the T-shirts, perhaps they were on his side - who knows. If there is any justice Sir Alex Ferguson should be 'sited' for trying to create a riot for his HARSH words to the press afterwards. Would you like to be a Liverpool supporter going to a Man U game now? Why didn't he keep his big gob shut. He is always outspoken, Refs, linesmen, penalties, takles and all because he is SAF? The longer this rumbles on in the Press and by MU, then then worse it is going to get. My opinion is purely from what happened after the game finished, and in no way condones what may or may not have been said prior to the teams taking the field.
Its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. Suarez and Evra both need to grow up. In fact, to me it did look like Evra had lowered his hand slightly as Suarez approached. If Evra had his hand where it was for all the other players maybe this wouldn't have happened. Kenny Dalgliesh's reactions are doing his reputation more harm than good. This has not been a good season for him on or off the pitch (exception of pending Carling cup win) and I expect he will be out come Summer time.
I've read similar comments on the BBC blog JS. I'm no fan of Ferguson, far from it. But with all due respect I think you're missing the point. Suarez used a word which in his culture is more acceptable than here. To me, that's mitigation, but doesn't make him innocent, and the FA agreed. He was punished, quite rightly, though the ban was definitely excessive in my view. Dalglish should have sat him down and explained that racism is a hot topic in football and that the FA had to act. That should have been an end to it. Act with dignity and memories will fade. But the issue was allowed to fester by management and fellow players, thereby encouraging Suarez not to draw a line under the affair. This isn't about a handshake. It's about so much more than that. The unwillingness of Suarez (who has a history - including biting another player) to let this go for the good of the game and the Liverpool Football Club. It's about Dalglish giving Suarez the impression he can behave like that and get away with it, and more importantly for Liverpool, it's about the Manager being made to look like a fool. Earlier in the week, the Manager had publicly stated that Evra's hand would be shaken by Suarez. I agree that Evra - who himself made racist comments following Ireland being knocked out of the world Cup qualifiers - doesn't cover himself in glory here. Two wrongs don't make a right. But Suarez clearly has some serious temperament issues and his handling by his manager have exacerbated this, not alleviated them.
I see Dalglish has now apologised for the tone of his post match interview and Suarez has apologised for not shaking Evra's hand. The Liverpool owners have been busy methinks. Let's hope this is the beginning of the end.
