Reports this morning from Uruguay that Suarez has been injured in training and is to undergo knee surgery.
If true, that is disastrous for the lad.

shame for Uruguay if true.

knee surgery sounds like a 3-4 month out, hope i am wrong as that means he misses the start of the season. besides be good for us as he needs a rest really as long as ready for new season and recovered in time.

not national wum day or something is it? too early in the morning for my brain, when i am most vulnerable lol

Was reported on BBC Salford breakfast news.
Can't find any links yet though. Would be gutted for the guy, he loves his football and shouldn't be missing a world cup.

May 22 (Reuters) - Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is to have surgery on his knee on Thursday morning, just over three weeks before the start of the World Cup, according to local media reports.
Suarez helped Uruguay to fourth place at the last World Cup in South Africa four years ago and was expected to play a key role in the country's campaign at the June 12-July 13 tournament in Brazil.
According to a report on the website of Uruguayan TV station Tenfield, the 27-year-old Liverpool striker had an MRI scan on Wednesday which revealed damage to the meniscus in the knee with the team doctor deciding surgery was necessary.
Recovery from such arthroscopic surgery takes from 15 to 20 days, according to the report, leaving Suarez little room for manoeuvre before Uruguay play their first match against Costa Rica in Fortaleza on June 14.
Uruguay also face England and Italy in opening round Group D. (Reporting by Nick Mulvenney in Sydney, editing by Ian Ransom)

cheers disco <ok>

thought it would be longer than that, but obviously not as serious as it sounds.

he doesn't need any training to get straight back in anyway. hopefully he will be a sub for first game in case needed, nothing more.

Oh I hope they don't rush the operation and rehab, 3 weeks is not enough recovery. Although I wonder if it's aggravated a niggle he's had for a while? Could explain his drop in form towards the end of the season.

Luis Suarez injures knee ahead of World Cup - Uruguay media
Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has injured his knee in training and could be a doubt for the World Cup, according to media reports in the country.

The 27-year-old Liverpool striker will have keyhole surgery on Thursday to repair damage to his meniscus, says Uruguayan broadcaster Tenfield.

Recovery normally takes between 15 and 20 days, adds the report.

Always a Blue, often a red
Luis Suarez on his international debut
•Luis Suarez was sent off on his international debut in February 2007, after being shown a second yellow card for dissent in a friendly against Colombia.

Uruguay play England on 19 June in Sao Paulo after their Group D opener against Costa Rica on 14 June.

Suarez finished as the Premier League's leading scorer this season with 31 goals, despite missing the opening five matches through suspension.

He also finished as top-scorer in the South American section of World Cup qualifying, scoring 11 goals as Uruguay finished fifth in the continent's nine-team group.

Uruguay subsequently secured their place at the finals in Brazil by beating Jordan 5-0 in a play-off.

Suarez is a proven performer at major tournaments, helping Uruguay to the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup and scoring four times as his side won the Copa America the following year.

His partnership with Paris St-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is a key part of coach Oscar Tabarez's plans.

Mixed emotions on this. Feel gutted for Suarez, he deserves to be playing in the world cup.

With my England cap on, kinda hope he doesn't make it back for that game......and with a very selfish LFC hat on, I really hope he gets some rest and doesn't rush back and make things worse.....we need him for the start of the coming season.

Wouldn't want this to be a serious injury, missing possibly his best WC - gutted for him.

A big worry, we need him fit to either start the season or to sell him.

He should be fit to play in the WC if it's only a minor cartilage tear.

We have an unwritten agreement that I don't constantly ask him about transfers during the window. I leave it to him to tell me. He ****ing hates it and it'll be even worse this year.

What I don't understand is:

If he's knackered his knees- why are they operating on his keyhole? :bandit:
