I was expecting a lengthy ban for Suarez and the FA have delivered. Banned for 10 games. But Liverpool are said to be shocked and disappointed at the decison. Really? He fully deserves the 10 game ban. The only thing that I disagree with is that he got a longer ban for biting someone than racially abusing someone. He should have got a longer ban for that. But pleased the FA have sent off a clear message here. Behaviour like that is not tolerated and that has been made crystal clear. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22278258
Thought it should be at least 8 (which he got before). I think neither he nor Liverpool realise how ordinary decent people view this.
The reason they are disappointed is Defoe bit Mascherano and only got a yellow card. Double standards from the FA here.
Not bothered much either way. He is a little tosspot, but the FA are not much better and often appear to bend to pressure from the media instead of having steadfast rules and punishments. Think this may push Suarez to engineer a transfer in the summer to somewhere like PSG or maybe Dortmund (who have lost one striker and will probably lose Lewandowski as well)
They couldn't take action because the referee was deemed to have taken action at the time. Time that rule is scrapped to be honest.
Yes I know but that rule is bullshit of course. And surely they can ignore or adjust their own rules anyway in extreme cases like that. Either way a horror challenge is much worse to me than a bite on the arm. A bite on the arm isn't going to cause a long term injury.
But a horror challenge can be a accidental, all it takes is a player to mistimed his tackle. But a bite can never be a accident can it?
Interesting to see if the full written reasons are released. Last time round they battered Suarez for about 100 pages. I feel like I hold a minority view here but it is now the responsibility of the clubs to change the FA's rules which they did not do last year. Will they do it? Maybe.
I agree with you about the apparent anomaly between the racism charge and the biting charge, but don't forget he has already served a 7 game ban for biting when he played for Ajax. A second offence will always attract a longer ban. Presumably if he commits another racist offence he will get a longer ban than he got for the Evra incident. Just to put this into context, if he was a rugby player, he would have got a 14 game ban for the first offence, and a 28 hgame ban for the second.
I'm sure you'll be familiar with the saying... Football is a gentleman's game played by thugs. Rugby is a thug's game played by gentlemen.
Can't see Dortmund signing him. He'd probably demand too high a wage, and they'd probably like to avoid his personality too. I think Eriksen or Mkhitaryan (or both) will be ideal targets for them, and they also have Gundogan and Bittencourt ready to step into a more key role. PSG seem like the kind of club that would buy him.
About right I think. Liverpool would save face if they just said they agree'd with the ban, its not like they can do anything about it. Oh but he should be 'helped' not 'hounded'- bollocks. As someone mentioned before he should be given a run out with some of the hardcase footballers of the 80's!
If Liverpool had any balls they would sack him. Would send a clear message and garner some respect for the club which no-one apart from their fans seem to have any more, and would also make business sense- why have a player on your books who is liable to miss a significant part of a season because he can't control himself?
Unless you are in South Wales, the West of England, the North of England, the Midlands, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, and quite a few other places in the world. In the West of England where I live, there are about as many rugby clubs as football clubs, so I doubt that all those players are upper class. And try calling an Australian rugby player upper class! I love rugby.
I always thought it was: Football is played by gentlemen and watched by thugs; rugby is a game played by thugs and watched by gentlemen.
So you think whatever he said to Evra is worse than bighting? I disagree. Liverpool fans have come to accept that their star player is a disgusting cheat, although a lot of them are of the opinion that "if we sell him, he will just go to Barcelona or Man City". I'm not so sure, I don' tthink either of those teams have a slot for Gerrard...
With you on that Chilco. And those "upper class t**s" who do play rugby are in most cases a damn sight harder than most pansy boy footballers who roll around in tears when someone sneezes on their handbag (some obvious exceptions of course).
I can see where the generalisation comes from though. I've lived my whole life in an area that is massive on rugby and doesn't give a **** about football. It's also quite posh.
