    Morning lads,

As usual the rumours continue to come out of that mill! I was just wondering what really are our chances of signing Daniel Sturridge this season?

I cant see Chelsea letting him leave for less than 15 million so surely a year loan would do the trick. This is a player who should be our main target.

I can't see him choosing clubs like Stoke, Blackburn etc over us.

    What do you think?

I could see him probably going to Stoke as they'll be in Europe and Chelsea will probably want him to get some European experience

If they get Naymar I can see Sturridge going for 15m to be fair.. As to out chances... Little to no I fear. Naturally I will fry my bollocks in lard if we do....

Chelsea asking too much he'll stay there till January and end up leaving for about 12 million.

Have to agree with the majority, can't see it happening. Chelsea will point to Carroll and Henderson going for £35m and £20m and say we want at least £15m+

Can't see Mike sanctioning that on 1 player who would also demand high wages. Would be delighted if we did.

    No chance hopefully...

... is there anyone else who thinks he's way too ball greedy to have in our squad considering how attacking our midfield looks?

Someone just remind Mike how much he'll be able to sell him on for if he does come good. Not that I want to talk about the sale of a star player before he even plays for the toon, but if that'll convince Ashley to splash the cash...

He was poor in the Under21s from what I saw (never let him near a free-kick)

This, he was greedy and wasteful. He's had 12 good games and now he's a £15m + player. Isn't it funny how Bolton were flying high when he signed and ended up below us at the end of the season.

Dropping Elmander to midfield when he had a great partnership with Davies was a big error

Bolton finished above us, or did I imagine that?

I think Elmander had lost form before the arrival of Sturridge, at least he'd stopped earning fantasy league points awhile before then. Then moving to midfield certainly didn't help it though

Thought they'd be higher with the form they've had through the season, ah well.

I thought Sturridge was about the only threat the Under 21's had all tournament.

As to whether we would spend the money, we must be seriously thinking about £10 - 12m for Zog: £12 - £15m for Sturridge may not be out of the question, especially if MA senses re-sale value.

As for whether we want him, he's the only striker we're currently linked with that I think is genuinely exciting. He's not the provien article, but I think half a good season in the prem is as good a recommendation as 2 - 3 good seasons in France.

Don't think that clarifies things much either way. The club feels free to lie to the Chronicle and the Chronicle feel free ot make things up on a slow news day. Chances remain about the same, realistic but distinctly worse than even
