Aren't we glad now those blinkered idiots didn't pick Holty or Ruddy as we might be facing weeks without them now?
not really. they might get injured on saturday - injuries happen. they would be far more likely to get injured playing for us over a 38 game season than in 4 or 5 games for their country. the lift it would have given everyone at the club would have been so immense, not to mention the players involved
and we've been lucky with injuries to attacking players this season - only Vaughn, could have been a lot lot worse <touchwoodnomoreinjuries>
I would never deny a player the privilege to play for their country. The benefits in terms of experience and the boost it would give far outweigh the risks of injury Holt or ruddy could get injured in training with the club, anything can happen.
I think we are obsessed with Holt for England and have missed the fact that others in the club played for their respective nations last night. We are trying to elevate Holt to Superstar status and while I agree he is a Talsiman and terrific player there are others who have supplied the passes for him to score. Morison could score 20 in the next ten and he would still not satisfy everyone because of his apparent personality. I haven't heard any Johnson for England calls yet he was reported to be interesting Capello and was on a short list.
i don't think johnson has been playing well enough since christmas to warrant a place in our team, let alone england! i think fox, surman and pilkington are being overlooked slightly. i realise pilks could be eligible for ireland but he can still represent england at the moment - same with surman and south africa. got to be better than downing... in fact, so am i! crofts and morison both played well for wales, i think crofts got motm
Like I said, any country, any nation, every player that's earnt it deserves a shout at there country. Particularly a friendly. Simeon, Martin Jackson, crofts and Morison have all done really well. And I've never understood Morison haters. He went on the radio and said that holy deserved a call up so no personal issues with them as was insinuated. We wouldn't be in as strong a league position without his goals. FACT
That particular rumour about Johnson completely baffled me at the time, and still does. He has done well for us this season and proved a good signing (particularly on a freebie) but I'd certainly not put him anywhere near the international stage personally, not in a million years. Morison was unlucky last night with a header that crashed against the bar, anyone heard how Russell Martin played?
martin got beaten in the air for the slovenia goal, that is all i have heard it terms of him being mentioned. The match report was brief though to be fair. Hopefully he did well
.....got an honourable mention from his manager but it was him who was outleapt for their headed goal. or should it be-it was he-
