Any fans on here or am I the only one?

    A little background for people,

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Studio Ghibli, Inc. (株式会社スタジオジブリ, Kabushiki-gaisha Sutajio Jiburi) is a Japanese animation film studio founded in June 1985. The company's logo features the character Totoro (a large forest spirit) from Hayao Miyazaki's film My Neighbor Totoro. It has its headquarters in Koganei, Tokyo.

Many anime features created by Studio Ghibli have won the Animage Anime Grand Prix award including: Castle in the Sky in 1986; My Neighbor Totoro in 1988; and Kiki's Delivery Service in 1989. In 2002, Spirited Away won a Golden Bear and an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, which remains the only film made outside the English-speaking world to have done so.
    Name

The name Ghibli is based on the Arabic name for the sirocco, or Mediterranean wind, which the Italians used for their Saharan scouting planes in the Second World War, the idea being the studio would blow a new wind through the Japanese anime industry.

My daughter used to love them and I just sit there amazed at the quality of the artwork. Don't ask me the names of any of them, but I think the Japanese are the masters of artistic animation closely followed by the people who made Belleville Rendez-vous.

Yeah they are always a feast for the eyes. The japanese have such an eye for detail. Makes Disney look piss poor.

The other thing I like is the 'real time' pace. They don't just flash from scene to scene like western animations and it makes them very relaxing to watch.
Disney probably started going down hill after the classic films like pinochio etc.

Yep, I'm really lucky and go to Japan quiet a bit on business. The artwork and story lines are excellent. It's hard for the western mentality to tune into but once you do the rewards are worth it.

Taped Grave of the Fireflies last week whilst I was out of the country (supposed to be a tearjerker).

Think my favourite is Porco Rosso (although I hear Howl's moving castle is pretty good).

Saw an interesting interview with Miyazaki on CNN last week (part of which is on the link below):

Ghibli No idea what Ponyo is about.
