When you consider the size of Bristol and the catchment area poor showing really- 6th highest on the table below : •Blackburn - 8,000 •Bristol City - 14,000 •Cardiff - 12,000 •Coventry - 10,000 •Ipswich - 21,000 •Leeds - 24,000 •Middlesbrough - 20,000 •Norwich - 20,000 •Plymouth - 10,000 •Preston - 11,000 •Queens Park Rangers - 7,000 •Rotherham - 6,000 •Sunderland - 32,000 •Swansea - 11,000
That's all down to lack of consistent success, or in our case zero.. on the other hand, the likes of Norwich sale min 20,000 season tickets which ever league they're in....tiny City compared to Bristol!
Norwich is a great City - top night out Most of the clubs in that table are the "only show in town" Whether we like it or not, the existence of Rovers has an impact I don't know how many season tickets they have sold but if you added that to ours
I think it shows the fans think we have under achieved recently. Merely staying in this division may have been enough for some fans, but clearly not for the masses! We did have a reasonable second half of the season, but the first half was really not very good tbh.
The die hard fans will always be there, to raise the levels of ST’s we need some success. Tbf we have pretty good numbers all things considered,
Bradford City sold more Season Tickets when they were in L1 than they did when they were in the Premier League. Work that one out !
Bristol City and Bristol Rovers fans add the crowds together you would only get approx 30000 to 35000 fans in the ground-for the size of the city shocking stats sheff weds- sheff utd 60k to 70k if they joined Man City-Man Utd 80k to 90k Liverpool-Everton 80k to 90k Birmingham-Villa 60k to 70K
I think a semi successful Bristol City team in the Prem could get 30,000 gates for home games on average if the stadium could hold that many. In the first season in 1976 I think we averaged about 27,000 ? With the bigger teams, and their massive away support such as the Manchester clubs, Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs etc I reckon gates of 35,000 isn't beyond the possible. Just need to get there now and boost the capacity if we do. It's all about making money in the Premiership
I do believe the Ateyo stand has been built with foundations that allow it to have a second tier fitted increasing capacity to 40k definitely would need that if we did go up.
It was originally designed to be higher, it was settled at its present height after complaints from the houses behind.
Ashton Vale site would have allowed 40+k if I remember.. spoilt by two dog walkers and the odd endangered species of weed!!
