Apparently it's between us and Stoke to sign him in the summer.. Thoughts people?

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8705808/

Stoke City and Sunderland are battling for Croatian international left-back Ivan Strinic, according to his agent.

The 25-year-old is currently with Ukrainian outfit Dnipro - but is being tipped to leave this summer.

Italian champions Juventus are being strongly linked, but the player's agent admits that at the moment it is Stoke and Sunderland leading the race.

"I read in newspapers that Juventus want Strinic but the truth is that nobody from that club talked with me about it," his agent Tonci Martic told 24sata.

"Some time ago we did but not only about Strinic. For now the most interested clubs come from the Premier League in England.

"Dnipro wants €9million, Stoke City and Sunderland offers little less than that though at the moment."

Martic stated earlier this month that Sunderland's offer had been rejected by Dnipro.

You're probably right mate, unfortunately. Although maybe it's to strengthen our hands in any negotiations with Levy?

No reason why Strinic cannot come in at LB and Rose moves up to left wing or midfield

I would rather have Rose - we know what we are getting with him. I do think that he will go back to Spurs though as he is better than what they have got at the moment.

Strinic would do for me as a replacement

Reckon Gil has hit the nail on the head, also a bit of a bluff with Levy in case he does try to charge really stupid money for him. We don't get him we still have a LB in Strinic, also Dnipro will know we are also looking at Rose so bargaining chip for both deals. Think Strinic will fit in well with us and if we get both then JMc will be a goner imo but, our left side will look a lot better all depends on whether we get both.

From the bit I know of Strinic (admittedly not a massive amount) it'd be great having both players on our left. Rose can run pass and shoot and is also solid defensively (and quick) they would compliment each other perfectly IMO

What's going on? Why are we suddenly signing genuine left sided defenders? Sunderland don't do this! :p

I say get them both signed up, because Danny Rose is going to do a Garreth Bale and move further forward IMO. He'll make an excellent Left Winger who will also track back to help out the defence when required.

We need more than one left back and 1 right back mate as shown this season. If there are injuries we don't have ANY cover. Why not both and have Rose and this lad fight it out. Same goes for right back.

I dont think any of them would be happy sitting on the bench at Sunderland, Cest.

Thats the thing though. I don't expect ANY of our squad to be happy on the bench kidda and that the problem we have right now. Too many are just content to turn up and what we need are more warriors and fighters who hate losing and hate not playing. Its up to PDC to manage that situation as it arises but we need to assemble a team of winners not plodders to achieve that.

We need 2 specialist players for every position not makeshift players stepping in to fill holes. Thats got us nowhere for 40 odd years.

Thats how I want us to eventually be mate, but for now, we havent even got nowhere near having ONE specialist for each position.

For the time being, get every space filled in, with steady back-ups. Get that sorted first and start becoming a 8th-12th club without the flirt of relegation. That will raise our profile and players wanting to come and fight to be in our team.

    Baby steps for now.
