I am of course delighted that we brought in Ozil. However, I am slightly disappointed that we didn't bring in another striker. Obviously this would be less of a concern if Poldi was fit. I think he's a brilliant natural finisher and slightly better than Giroud when 1 on 1 with the keeper. Is it possible that with the service our midfield will generate, Bendtner will have a new lease of life? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he has never played alongside Cazorla, let alone Ozil. Maybe, as a back up striker to Olivier he's not such a bad prospect, at least until Poldi comes back. Thoughts?
I see no harm in putting him on if Giroud needs resting/is injured. Anything is better than putting a midfielder up front (with the exception of Walcott who could be moulded into a striker) We know he can score at the highest stage (World cups, champions league) - I'd love to see him reach the original promise. But in Jan we have to go all out for Suarez or someone of his quality (he's probably the only one of that calibre who wont be cup tied in Champions league)
To be honest, we could stick a scarecrow up front and he too would bag a fair amount of goals. With Ozil, Cazorla, Wilshere etc in midfield, we will create a hell of a lot of chances. Our team will create as much as it used to back in the 07/08 season i reckon.
This is Bendtners chance to prove that he has what it takes. He almost went to Crystal Palace. By some twist of fate he's ended up as a striker at a Top4 Club again. Nicholas Bendtner, you have 4 months to prove your worth & become the top quality striker that Arsenal need. Your time starts...now.
Will he get games though? I see Sanagoo starting CC games. Even if Bendtner does start those games the likes of Ozil, Caz will probably not play. The big test will be if who comes on for a sub as Giroud in the League? Will it be Sanagoo or Bendtner?? Realistically unless Giroud gets injured I don't see Bendtner getting game time.
I'm not the biggest fan of Bendtner but I really think he could surprise us this season. He has shown flashes of brilliance against big teams but he has just lacked consistency. He has one thing that a lot of players (talented or untalented) don't have and that's confidence. He has it in abundance. Ok, it's not ideal that he's still at Arsenal but we should still get behind him.
Giroud, Pod, Theo, Bendtner, Sanogo. Should see us through to January where we hopefully make another statement a la Ozil.
Giroud is going to get ALOT more service now. Not only that his ability to hold up the ball is going to help Ozil/Carzorla etc.. get more goals. The big Frenchman has improved alot technically and is hard working and effective. Of course I would have loved a World Class finisher like Suarez but Bayern Munich have shown a TOP class midfield and a workhorse upftront can be an effective combination.
I think you are being a bit hard on Giroud. He really couldn't do anything more this season so far, and he is about to get a LOT more service. I think the point about him being injured before Podolski gets back is a fair one, but if he stays fit, I don't think (to be fair to him) we have any good reason to doubt him thus far.
I'm being nice about him really. As 'afcftw' did you read my post? I think with our midfield he could be simularly effective in the way Mandzukic is for Bayern.
Not sure we'll see Pod before January - reports today of him being out 3 months. Bendtner simply cannot pull on the shirt again, he stated 2/3 years ago that he's played his last game for the club and has made no secret of his desire to leave, only his personal greed has got in the way of him joining another club, he is detested by team mates and fans alike, he cannot figure IMO. Theo's threat is as a wideout and Sanogo looks entirely out of his depth at this stage of his development. In short we needed strengthening up front and didn't, a massive missed opportunity IMO. But, having picked up a talent like Ozil it's impossible to know just what his influence will be and he could make average forwards look very good, but there's no hiding from the fact that we are now extremely reliant on Giroud's form and fitness....
Lets hope he gets fit, shows the right attitude and starts showing the talent he obviously has.You never know the lad may take the chance he has been so lucky to have been given this time
I've got some knowledge of the Palace set up and there's no way they would every have come close to paying him his £55k a week, Arsenal would have needed to subsidise that by around £40k a week. I'm not doubting your statement and I'm sure that will be the official line but having offloaded a bunch of high earners this Summer and improved our weekly outgoings by half a million, I wouldn't be surprised if the club said **** it, we'll just ruin his World Cup. How about this for the biggest U-turn since Rooney fancied a payrise http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Bendtner-determined-Arsene-Wenger-proud.html
