After getting rooted 5-0 by Swansea it isn't exactly a shock to see us linked with the likes of Dawson and Carvalho but are we all sorted as far as strikers goes? If you look at the current squad Hulse, Smith, DJ and Betty are not present. We have Cisse, Zamora, AJ, Hoilett, & Mackie listed as strikers. Hoilett and Mackie were used as wingers last weekend although they did come in-field every now and again. Do you think we need more out and out goal scorers or is Sparky going for the Barcelona/Spain approach of having ball playing midfielders with an ability to score goals? Cisse hardly had a shot and this maybe down to poor supply but Adel and Junior both took a punt or two during the match. I admit I am stuck in the mindset of flat back four with either the full backs bombing on or two wingers to deliver passes into a target man or striker and the good old 4-4-2 suits this pattern of play. What we got was 4-5-1 or sometimes a 4-4-1-1 but delivery to Cisse wasn't great and I don't think he makes the most of playing off a defender to give himself options. Should Hughes be on the look out for another forward or are we ok as long as we don't leak goals?
Oh no where is CB when you want him? http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/aug/22/qpr-jermain-defoe-spurs-damiao
As we have more need of a big fella, another that can be target man, I'd have preferred Adebayor, who Tottenham are supposed to have got for £5 miilion plus some of his wages subsidized by Citeh, according to the BBC, while we maybe will pay more for Dawson!!! But Defoe is an excellent scorer, so Yes Please, though I don't believe Spurs will let him go - Anus Boils said exactly this.
We need another target man, we were so bad wed have been better off playing a 442 with Hulse in the last game. I reallly fear for us and hughes job if we dont get another big forward in. I wanted Lukaku who is a beast but WBA got him. Signing Defoe or that african bloke will be a disaster.
Target man needed only if you are old fashioned. Who is the target man between Aguerro and Tevez? Rooney and RVP or Hernandez? For Barca or Spain? Might be an option we want, but not the only way to play.
Too true! But your examples are from the very very top teams. For us lesser lights a target man gives an option when the beautiful play on the floor is (as often as not) not cutting open the opponents defence. A cop out maybe, and often over used, but a good option. Reason I like Ade is that he is both very good in the air and on the floor.
Those teams dominate the opposition so dont need one, we have to find a way to relieve pressure against the bigger teams or they will kill us and hughes teams have always had a target man, even at City.
You can have the best strikers/finishers in the world, but if the ball is not there it makes no difference.
As usual Eamon is on the money, Great examples and points made by SB73 .... Flyer you naughty sausage you have lost the plot again
