Presently listed: Holt, Morison, Martin, Jackson & Vaughan. Holt: prolific for 3 seasons - should we expect another 15+ goals? Morison: moody - seems erratic Martin: did well at Crystal P. but can he cut it in Prem? Jackson: imo not a true striker but is very quick and can assist in goals with his pace and trickery. Vaughan: hopefully recovered from a season of injury, but seems prone to further injury and my well be loaned out anyway. Not sure we have the personnel to take on the Prem this season. Given that we have been told that there is the best budget yet for players it seems to me that perhaps if both Martin and Vaughan go out on loan that we will need a top class goal scorer to bolster our resources. Thoughts?
just to add to that, i would like us to add another striker if possible but not urgently. i won't be panicking if we go with what we've got but as i say, it would be beneficial to add another, but god knows who! our budget may be fractionally bigger than last years, but we are still shopping in the bargain bin at the moment. i read somewhere the other day someone suggesting we should sign jermain defoe! with what? its difficult at the moment to find that elusive striker
I think this is a weak area potentially. Yes it is as per last year when they did well but then they were new boys and certain elements could have been sussed. We need another fresh face although the Vaughan situation could make a difference as he is effectively a new addition. Worthy of some decent investment on balance.
Holt yes 15+ Morrison aint moody he is damn brilliant anyone who says otherwise did not see his goals last year every one a peach! he will score 10+ given the minutes Vaughan if he stays fit will score 10 Jacko is brilliant just witness the way he done Manure in that first 45 mins at carrow Road they could not handle him, probably create more than he will score still have him down for 5 with goals from Pilks, Bennett E and Howson as well as Hoolahoops scoring ; striking aint our problem, getting a cup of tea at half time however.......
On what do you base your comment ' did well at Crystal P ' Did you read what the Palace fans thought of him? Did he score a hatfull of goals? He had one good season in Div 1 and that is it - he should be sold - not loaned out - sold!! What is the sense of loaning out Vaughan? If we get rid of Martin and Vaughan that will leave us with just 3 strikers so we would have to buy 2 more - where are we going to get the money for that? Sell Martin, keep Vaughan and buy another striker to replace Wilbs.
Last week we were being linked with Nile Ranger, probably simply on the basis that Newcastle are looking to offload him and he is known to Hughton. The BBC have a report that he has been left out of the squad headed for their training camp abroad. Anybody nervous?
We will score lots from midfield/ advanced midfield now. I fancy Pilkington, Howson, Bennett,Butterfield, Surman and Hoolahan to chip in with a few.
i think kent makes a very valid point. i think we will almost certainly play the one striker in most games and holt, morison, vaughan and jackson are more than good enough to call upon. that's not to say we shouldn't invest in another forward if a better one comes available, assuming he's within budget, but are there any strikers out there who are reasonably priced who are better than what we already have? doubtful.
Not sure how much he'd cost but I'd like to see Gary Hooper as a yellow and he'd compliment what we already have very nicely ....
When Saints tried to sign him Celtic stated they wouldn't sell for less than £12m or something ridiculous like that, very good player but in no world is he worth that!
How about getting a loan striker? I'd be happy if Lukaku came here for a season. I reckon he would score 15 goals+ in our line up.
hmm, based on what? he's been one of the biggest flops of last season. not impressed at all though he has potential. i'm not against a loan striker though
We have lost Wilbs and will almost certainly lose Martin so we will be one man down on last season although in theory Vaughan should be available as opposed to last season evening things up. I think that there will be plenty of goals from Holt and Morro. I think Jackson could come good and have a hot streak at some stage and as for Vaughan - who knows? Plenty of pedigree but can he kick on and stay fit? If we could go for another forward surely it will not be to sit on the bench so we then have the problem of keeping those we have happy - solves one problem but maybe creates another. I'd be inclined to keep our powder dry until January and then see if we need a fresh face to help the troops out. Obviously if a fantastic player became availabe at a sensible price I would disregard the above in an instant!
