No-one to challenge Kermo and BWP in the starting lie-up, but what if they get injured? Hayes seems to have lost all confidence and offered no threat yesterday Waggy didn't look like a striker Euell- good cameo but not a replacement striker for any length of time Beson-trying to get rid of Popo-injured and not featuring anyway Smith- good prospect but that's all at the moment. So what if BWP and Kermit get injured?
Azeez or Sho-Silva and probably Sho-Silva for me I think over five or so games opposition defenders would take him lightly (due to his age) and he is good enough (and fast enough) to make them pay for that
I think if Kermo gets injured Hayes will come back in (and I trust CP to have the man management to give him just the right kick up the backside and let him know this is chance for him to get his place in the team back and some confidence will return) but if BWP was to go down with any significant injury I think we'll use the loan market for an experienced and proven goal threat at this level (not sure who). I honestly don't think we have a replacement for his goals no matter what combination of strikers we pick.
I thought Hayes played well yesterday, especially in the 2nd half. He's not going to score goals for you, he links up play and does it well. On Euell let my heart rule that one rather than my head, but I think he is there more than just being a striker. I agree about Waggy, more effective running at a full-back. Now for me I don't get letting Benson go, had a long chat with him yesterday. He is such a top bloke and he said Charlton is a great club, he loves it here but on the other hand it is frustrating. He seems so cool about it. I reckon he is still a threat at this level as you'll remember scored 10 goals last season with no service! Can't really comment on Popo and Smith and I've not really seen enough of them. Let's not try and think about this too much though eh, we will be fine! COYR!
Agree Pup, no ned to worry about it - it might not happen, and if it does, someone else will step up to the plate - or trust CP's judgement - after all, we cant argue so far !
Agree with everything posted. (Not often we are so unaninimous). Would need a (probably expensive) loan to replace BWP. No-one much was complaining about Hayes before we signed Kermit. We were doing well with him in the team. I cannot understand why we are so hellbent on pushing Benson out. Cannot be we need the money and he doesn't seem to have an attitude problem or to have lost form. I just hope it is because CP has someone in his sights to buy in the January window whom he thinks is better.
It's about time BWP signed a new contract too. Ever since he said how happy he is at Charlton I've been a bit concerned about this.
Not too worried about BWP, contract-wise, as he's got 18 months left if we take our 12 month extension option (which I can't see any reason why not to!). Imagine he'll be after a greatly improved contract to stay and the club doesn't want to break the bank, meaning there'll be promotion clauses, goal bonuses and all sorts to negotiate... with no pressure from either side to sign I can't see it being signed quickly. He is critical, though, and there's no natural replacement. Given our strength in midfield there's an arugment to go 4-5-1... but I don't agree with it! I'd agree a loan would be the best answer, though have no issues with Hayes or Benson, think they could both do a good job as 2nd striker.
Dead right. Didn't someone post that he'd heard BWP and Hayes speaking in glowing terms about their partnership at a function? It's just that Kermorgant adds the priceless dimension of winning almost everything he goes up for in the air - the speed with which he's supplanted Hayes in the line-up must have completely pulled the rug out from under Hayes' confidence. It's a great shame for him, as I don't think he did anything much wrong, but to be perfectly honest, did any of us (including the management) expect Kermorgant to be this good?
For me Kermorgant is better than Hayes. Scrap that, Kermorgant is even better than Hayes - both are good, and both link up really well with BWP. If Kermo gets injured then Hayes will come straight back in, and we'll still be a very potent attacking threat.
Sorry to break the agreement but for me Hayes had a poor game and looked a shadow of the player he was a few months ago. His first touch was nothing like as good as it used to be and it seemed to me that he often laid the ball off with one touch because he didn't want to put his foot on it. When Kermit first came I was not in favour of dropping Hayes because of his link-up play, but yesterday he just didn't look the same player, and gave the ball away most times. Just the way I saw it.
Have to be honest, when I heard about Kermogant signing I let out a big grown and said 'please God no!' Silly me, he's one of my favourite players at the club now. Hayes drives me insane, his confidence and form seems to go up and down each game, his link up play is great and he's good in the air, but at times he just can't control the ball and has an appauling first touch (apart from lay-offs). Doesn't really offer much of an 'attacking threat either. I rate him, but just feel he isn't quite good enough to be in the starting 11 for a promotion-chasing team.
"Agree with everything posted. (Not often we are so unaninimous)". Sorry to burst your bubble Eddie - I 'ate Parky
I quite like Waggy upfront he works hard and a threat i`d have him and Hayes as third and fourth striker
Hayes does seem to have the ability to produce cute lay offs and flicks... that go to nobody. I don't know whether this is lack of understanding between teammates or laziness on his behalf.
I was going to have a quiet Sunday evening off to browse through my scrapbook of press cuttings about Parky's triumphs at various clubs as player and manager, but you have reminded me that I forgot to pay tribute to Bradford's well-deserved Cup win yesterday. Parky's certainly taken over a demoralised side and got them playing as winners. Watford away next round? No problem. Do you realise Bradford won the FA Cup in 1911? Pity Parky didn't join them a year earlier instead of wasting his talents in front of a bunch of ungrateful hounds or he could have won it this year, the centenary.
