Be interesting to know who Martin plans on going after so id thought id throw a few names into the hat. Papis Demba Cisse: This would be the ultimate show of backing from Short imo. With Frieburg rock bottom of the Bundesliga (despite his 9 goals in 15 games) he will be desperate to leave. We would have to get in there early to beat off the competition. He wouldn't come cheap though, think we'd be shelling out the type of money we spent on Gyan. Andy Johnson: In the last year of his contract at Fulham and reports suggest he wants a move. He's never quite found the net as regularly as people might think but I think he'd do a job here and could score goals in our team. £2m? Bobby Zomora: Has apparently fallen out with Martin Jol so may be on the lookout for a new club. Don't think he's ever been north of watford so if he is to leave he'll be off to QPR. Personally I rate him highly and if he'd been the player he is now 5 or 6 years ago he'd have made it at a top 4 team. Erdinc: Striker from PSG who the mags chased all summer. Don't know much about him other than looking at his record and someone telling me he'd make Michael Turner look like Usain Bolt. Michael Owen: Could still do a job imo but would need someone to tap into his desire and love of the game which seems to have detierioted into being more content with 10 games a season for Man Ltd than an actual challenge. Steven Fletcher: Was high on my wish list in the Summer. More people on here seem to prefer Doyle but I said he does all what Doyle does but he also scores goals (don't we know it) 16 in his last 23 I get the impression that they would sell as Mick has already piped up about holding on to him (may aswell stick a price tag on his forehead. They bought him for £6.5 so they'll want a profit, maybe £10m may tempt them? Might sound alot but O'neill has track record of buying British so I hope this is considered. Any others?
That erdinc fella we were linked with. The only hope we had with him was that he was scouted by graham Carr who has proven to be a very good judge of talent. It's my bet that he would do a decent job for whoever lands him.
I rate Zamora, but the trouble is that he is very much a confidence player, and with the nature of our crowd would more than likely wilt...
If we could get Zamora and Johnson for around £8m the pair, I'd be well chuffed. Tried, tested and EPL ready they would both fit straight into the team. The main problem with that is both are the wrong side of 30 now and there is no resale value at all, however I would like to see both here at the SOL for the next 2 or 3 years. Zamora in particular is a proper old fashioned centre forward and young Connor would benefit playing with him. That said, we have Campbell to come back now and Noble, who will more than likely go out on loan in January for the season. I'd love him to go to Blackpool under Holloway for 5 months personally. This Cisse lad everyone goes on about is still an unknown to me, apart from the stats offered up. It seems he would cost around £14m and with wages that would be the whole budget. A big risk indeed. I suppose Heskey will be linked because of their shared history and to be honest, as a short term fix to a long term problem, he wouldn't be that bad. He's a team player and a grafter and both parties know each other. Whatever happens, Mon is his own man and will have his own plans for sure.
To me Zamora, Johnson etc... Are no better than Wickham, Bendtner, Ji, Noble, Campbell, Sess. That's 6 strikers we currently have (ok Sess is a makeshift, but he still has been playing there) We don't need numbers we need Quality: We had Bent, Gyan, Campbell last season. If we are going to buy someone it must be a class act. Cisse is the only one on that list that's worth buying otherwise were just stifling our you talent.
I think wee need to look at what MON will be doing and for me a Zamora/Johnson type would make sense. He will, IMO, be looking to shore up a sinking ship and get us up the table, summer will be the big signing. Mind I dont know, just a guess.
is there any money left? i would imagine brown and o'shea would be one huge wages, plus all the other players that were signed in the summer, surely he has to buy to sell, what with the added cost of changing managers..
Assuming O'Neill is going after a striker or two in the window, you might as well discount Owen straight away since he's always injured, he hasn't got the legs to run out for more than 10-15 games per season. There's some ok names in that list, Cisse isn't all he's made out to be and for big money as Cest says that's a huge risk. The one everybody should be aiming for from Newcastle down to Bolton is the loan signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. He's not getting the game time he needs to progress at Chelsea so I can see him being shipped out for a few months on loan this year, leaving Drogba, Sturridge, Torres and Kalou to do the scoring for CFC. Bolton seems the obvious choice seeing as they got Sturridge to turn into a top EPL player, but O'Neill may be able to use his charm on AVB for this one. Then again he may want a permanent signing, Roman Pavlyuchenko (sp), Marouane Chamakh, Gary Hooper and dare I say Kenwyne Jones? There's plenty of talent in the UK and I think that's where O'Neill will be shopping for obvious reasons, I'd expect him to go after a few loan signings though rather than spend big in his first window.
Is Henrik Larson still retired lol?? Seriously though Zamora would do a good job and has the experience needed. Hugo Rodallega maybe, havent seen much of him this season, is he injured? Papiss Cissé has scored almost 50% of his teams goals this year which is impressive in any league! Germán Denis is doing great in Siere A and he is out on loan too.
I wouldnt mind seeing Pavlaychenko & Owen (Loan) I would also like us to get Kranjcar & Samba (One can dream) --------------------Westwood--------------------- O`Shea-----------Samba-----Brown-----------Bardo Larsson-----------Vaughan----Kranjcar----McClean --------------------------Sess------------------------- --------------------------Pav--------------------------
Very good shout this, better and different to what we have. Zamora is no better than Bendtner or Wickham. Johnson is no better than Sess or Noble. Lets start thinking a little bigger. I thought there was no way MON would come to SAFC and he is here. We need to be thinking Bent & Gyan replacements, not average EPL strikers.
I think the reason Bruce left us in the brown stuff was an over use of the loan system so id rather we bought. Fletcher has 16 in 23 starts, you can't call that average and we certainly don't have anybody currently capable of that kind of return. If not the llikes of Fletcher wed have to look to the continent and pay huge sums.
Johnson (no crap), Zamora (no want 10m), Fletcher (no ****), Owen. (NO **** and finished) Bent (NO he's a ****), Kenwyne (No he's ****), Gyan (No, just don't want to see him again), Phillips(give over, no sentiment in this game move on) Campbell (Yes, hope he gets fit), Wickham (Yes, got no choice), Ji(No, get rid), Bendtner (No, not the answer), (Sess (It's a proven No, not saying get rid but not CF) Heskey (please Martin, **** no,don't want that pile of **** here, not if he ****ing paid us. **** no, **** no, **** no) Who do we get? (well, I don't know do I, that's what MON gets paid for)
Id love Jones back but with Whickham i think we need more of a striker with good movement and a turn of pace. Wouldn't be surprised to see him leave stoke though, and to a better team. He'd be great for Everton
