Both been linked with moves to us. Not the sort we need imo, both make Larsson look like Usain Bolt and they are both the wrong side of 30.
Borriello is a big no, a strange career has seen him have 9 different loan spells and his record in front of goal is far from prolific.

Gilardino is better and his goal scoring record is great through the years but is it just lazy journalism?

With talk of an £8m bid rejected for Fletcher does anyone think it would be good business to cash in on Fletcher and bring in Gilardino for a fraction of that?

I think Gus nailed a lot of these rumours in his press conference yesterday by saying he hadn't even heard of most of the players linked to us this window.

He has already gone on record stating he wants pace in the team and prefers players who can make an immediate impact. Foreign players are good medium to long term targets but we need British based ones now.

I'd lovd us to be after the likes of Demba Ba or perhaps Jordan Rhodes for whom I have been an interested party for 2 or 3 years now, or a gamble on an in form kid in the lad from Burnley, Ing's.

Less likely as it originated from an Italian source.

Obviously the focus at the moment is on first team players, but as a punt for the youth team, we should be looking at the likes of Kidderminster's Joe Lolly.

With you on Ba but would he come with his Newcastle connections? Don't get the two highlighted though, we really need proven prem quality right now, can't afford to be taking risks on youngsters doing well in a lower league.

If we're going to be taking a punt on a youngster doing well in the Championship, I hear there's this lad Connor with a better goals:games ratio than either of the players you mentioned, in a poorer team, and he's younger than either of them. We should push the boat out for him
