With Rotherham United this morning setting the asking price for top marksman Adam Le Fondre at £350,000 with £50,000 additionally needed in add-ons is he someone that can score in the Championship? Would he come here? Would we want him? We are obviously in the market for a striker, what other options do you guys think we are looking at? Maybe a loan from Aston Villa again or maybe other options. 01st September: So our search for a Striker has ended on deadline day with the purchase of 23 yr old Joe Garner from Forest who he signed for in 2008 Not exactly a prolific goal scorer - 10 in 55 whilst at Forest. Sounds a hard trier and to be honest a little like Deeney and I,m afraid another signing that doesn't inspire me. Still here's hoping he turns over a new leaf and starts scoring hatfulls!
I have watched Alf several times and believe he could be the goal poacher that we need - he does remind me of Kevin Phillips. Not sure that he would want to come to Watford as I expect that there might be other more attractive offers. Considering we paid £500k for Deeney - should snap Alf up quickly - 22 year old proven goal scorer - can't lose. Sam Baldock seems to be out of our price range at present.
If i was the watford manager/owner i would definately pay that for him given the situation we're currently in.
Do the club have links with Ronnie Rosenthal as Israel might have something to offer. We had Ronnie Alon Hazan and other clubs have been successful with players from there and they are cheaper than English players.
Imports from Iceland have gone quiet recently........AK any chance you can rustle us up a Helguson style replacement on the cheap???
Would like to have Baldock, Le Fondre or Weimann (back) but think this is possibly grasping at straws as all three maybe out of our albeit increased price range. There is also a youngster, Rhodes I think his name is, at Huddersfield who may be worth a punt, but as with anyone it will take time for them to bed in. Should be an interesting rest of the week leading up to Sunday's game. We need someone in by Friday in my opinion so that he can have a day training with the team ahead of Sunday's game. Not doing this means we are resigned in all likelihood to the loan market and that is always a lottery.
I would be very happy to get one of either Baldock or Le Fondre on a permanent basis and get AW on loan till Jan. We can then put Deeney in midfield as the creative midfielder Al thinks we need (i would prefer Walker there).
I think Weimann is a strong possibility on loan again, but I'd also be tempted to ask Norwich if Simeon Jackson is available - be it on loan or to sign. He must have dropped down the pecking order quite a bit now. Rhodes is a player I've liked the look of for the last couple of years, but think he'd be pretty costly now!
Just spotted this on the BBC website, is he worth a shout I do not know a lot about him: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14650633.stm
Just to add some information - I hadn't spotted that in an interview last Friday Baz confirmed he has increased the amount of money available to SD considerably for the purchase of a striker.
anyone seen Izale McLeod at Barnet? also used to be at Charlton amongst others. Did Barnet a real service last year, and a good penalty taker, keeping them up in last game of season. has scored 2 or 3 already this term. Maybe worth a shout given our resources. Along with another loanee of course. Just another amongst the above options to consider maybe?
Izale McLeod is a big NO. He was a big hope for Charlton, but it all went wrong. I've seen him at Barnet, he has an ego the size of Marlon King and has some off field problems. Let's just say a polite no and move on!

Elixir, as to ego, penty of players have a big ego, but if it is a disruptive influence, then no, not a good idea. As to his off-field problems, I am totally ignorant of this so I bow to your knowledge in this regard. Purely on the footballing side he has done very well at Barnet and is experienced. The other factors of course have to be considered so if they do have a negative impact on the team or on his ability to stay focussed on the field then of course he should not be considered. Some players can handle things despite, some cannot.
The best Icelandic players are taken by clubs in England and Scandinavia. I will have a look and see.
Using the same logic as AC Milan did with Luther Blissett there are these goals scorers. And before anyone says Youtube clips could make even me look good with three left feet, but gives an idea. Kjartan Henry Finnbogason has 9 goal in 12 games for KR and has 25 years MatthÃas Vilhjálmsson of FH has 8 goals in 15 games and has 24 years Atli Viðar Björnsson also of FH has 8 goals from 14 and is 31, but more defensive Garðar Jóhannsson of Stjarnan has 31 years and in 15 games has 10 goals Halldór Orri Björnsson also of Stjarnan has 9 goals in 16 matches and is 24 Kristinn Steindórsson is 21 and has 10 goals in 16 games for Breiðablik To me Kristinn Steindórsson of Breiðablik would be a good bet, He is young and powerful and to score so many for a team not right at the top of the league is good when he has over half their goals, also Garðar Jóhannsson of Stjarnan might be a good move as he is tough, the club is just above Breiðablik and they do score a lot of goals. As KR are top of the league Kjartan Henry Finnbogason may cost too much. The worry is they all have a similarity to a certain Ipswich player of Hungarian birth, except Garðar Jóhannsson. Perhaps Sean Dyche could talk with Heiðar as his opinion at the club would be better than mine.
supposedly AlF has handed in a transfer request. http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...ds-in-transfer-request.?p=1138792#post1138792 However i can not find the info anywhere else.
No one seems to have picked this one up, although I may have missed it. Taken from the Northern Echo, on the Darlington FC pages. Meanwhile, Cooper has explained Michael Smith's surprise inclusion in the squad on Saturday. The striker was last week on trial at Watford, for whom he impressed during an outing for the reserves, and the clubs are now negotiating a deal. Cooper said: "The two clubs are talking, but until that scenario changes he is still our player."
