Hughton has been reported as stating that he will be looking for more firepower in the January transfer window. Do you think he will go back for Craig M-S or are there other strikers that you think we would like to get in and can afford?
We spoke about this in the car back from Norwich earlier today. The main question is how much money is at our disposal? CMS is a bit too old in my opinion, I'd rather make an investment in the future. I think we'll go abroad on this one, I have a lot of faith in the signings we've brought in so I'm sure they will be good.
Sorry but this was too irresistible: Rhodes, Rhodes, Rhodes In all seriousness, I am concerned that should Garrido become injured, that Tierney isn't back to his pre-injury best, so for that reason LB is a concern. RB is now sorted as is DM. Impressed with Jackson so far must say! I will admit I had him down wrong...
Charlie Austin is the hottest striker at the moment. But I'm not totally convinced another striker would be the answer. We are creating chances and they aren't always just falling to the strikers i.e. Pilks sitter yesterday. We are playing better, as an outfit, with Holt on his own. Johnson and Tettey are doing well in the middle and Hoolahan is thriving. So another striker would only be a sub at best. Of course one might be tempted because of the decent wages he would receive and be prepared to be sub just for that reason. I am still in the Morison isn't good enough camp I'm afraid. He was summed up for me with his attempt to gain a corner when not only didn't he hit his opponent with the ball who was a yard away but the ball didn't go out of play either. That sums him up for me. So I won't respond to the pro Morison camp. I failed to see why Jackson wasn't the one to come on but give credit to CH, he's the man in charge. So if we are interested in someone else, I'm happy to believe CH will have his reasons and knows what he wants.
Pretty much what I discussed coming home with some other fans after the game yesterday. I would love to see Jackson come on with his pace against a tired defence - or at least give him a chance. The team seems pretty settled and I thought Snodgrass had one of his better games for us yesterday. Not impressed with Barnett and Tierney seemed to be 'the weakest link' against Spurs, so that's a concern if Garrido gets suspended/injured. Am I right in thinking that Whittaker can play anywhere across the defence, so he could possibly cover??
I'd imagine we would look to exit Chris Martin and bring someone in who st least had a chance of getting into the team.... Martin is dead wood at present I'm afraid!
I think he'll go abroad, England is berift of good strikers. I can't think of many in the Premiership in the bottom half I'd particularly fancy. The Championship also seems quite bad at the moment. I don't want CMS, Rhodes or Austin, there must be so much better out there for the same fees. I think he might go to France again, they seem to be producing some fantastic players at the moment with reasonably low transfer fees.
I've always liked Martin, he's an excellent finisher and technically good, just not good enough however to combat his severe lack of mobility, he is so overweight at the moment and just not pickable.
I don't think there's any cause for concern on that front. Whittaker is more than capable of covering in that position for a few games in the same way Naughton did last season. I've never understood this about Martin. Everyone says he's a fantastic finisher. PL went as far as saying he was the best finisher at the club, yet his goal scoring record at Norwich isn't that great. His career at Norwich currently stands at 34 goals in 115 games, compared to Holt (73 goals in 139), Hoolahan (27 goals in 150 games) and Jackson (17 in 65) he doesn't come off that well. In the case of Holt and Hoolahan you could say they have started more and take penalties, but Jackson starts from the bench a lot and is scoring at about the same rate, yet Martin is considered a better finisher than Jackson.
The worry with Chris Martin, is who will actually pay for him? Palace weren't exactly desperate to have him back, and I'm sure if the offers were forthcoming we'd have loaned him out already. How much longer has he got on his contract? I would like us to bring someone else in, but depending on our situation in a couple of months, maybe it's worth leaving it until the summer, or signing someone on a deal like Garrido's. I also think we'll be looking abroad.
23 to be exact and four of them were against Paulton Rovers. I'm not jumping on the 'Martin's rubbish' bandwagon, as he has had some good games for us and won us some vital points. The winner against Brentford when were down to 10 men and the late winner against Leeds spring to mind, but I've never really seen anything to substantiate the claim that he's the best finisher at the club.
Was thinking exactly the same thing earlier, I do think we need another striker up top but WHO is the question? As in the summer who could we realistically bring in for the funds that we have and who could make a difference. I like cms but as stated above he is getting on a bit now and would he be able to cut it at this level!? I reckon though hughton will go in for him again but come the summer if we are still in the prem this position is of the upmost importance to improve.
CH went on record just a few days ago saying that he sees James Vaughan as still having a future at Norwich. That could be just to kill any idea that Vaughan will be allowed to move cheaply. But if we take it at face value, what are the implications of his looking to bring in another striker in January? I agree that Chris Martin's days as a City player are definitely numbered; but I also suspect it means that Morison too faces an uncertain future. It doesn't matter what we think of him, divided as we are. It's what CH thinks. At the moment, if for any reason Holty is out, Morro is his replacement. I'm getting the message that CH doesn't think that's good enough.
I wouldn't mind Tom Ince, can play either wing, up front or in the hole behind the striker and is certainly amongst the goals. But I doubt he'd want to be on the bench which with Hoolahan, Pilks, Snodgrass and Bennett - he probably would be. In terms of an out and out striker, I'm not sure we would bring anyone in without letting one go, especially whilst adopting a lone striker? That being said, I like Morison and Jackson but will they get us enough goals should Holt get injured?
Surely we would need to get rid of striker first? This could well happen as well, martin maybe Morrison even Abroad sounds likely Another tettey as well please mr Chester!
