A comment regarding McLeod made me think about our strikers. We have four strikers in the squad. Morgan -28, Gornell -22, Collins -21 and Bradshaw -19 - that is also the order that GT seems to pick them too. Yet they all seem to be firing blanks at the moment. Morgan causes the opposition defence a huge amount of problems and always seems to be able to get near to most crosses/passes to shoot yet his ability to shoot straight at the goalkeeper or miss the goal area is very good. Gornell again has great vision of the game and seems to get into the right places and does a lot of work in the build up yet again is not getting on the score sheet. Collins is the 'fiery one' who is willing to work hard and take powerful shots from long distance yet his fire causes him problems. Then we come to Bradshaw (for want of a better phrase) the junior striker who had some marvellous goals last season but hasn't fully demonstrated that this season, in the reserves or first team. Yes both James and Tom have had great international goals under their belts this season but have not recreated that for our squad. Are we too spoilt for choice having four strikers that 'could' be in the first team starting line up? What are your opinions of the strikers? Is it their fault, is it the way we play - lot's of crosses requiring headers, so should CM help with forward balls to feet; or is it something else? Who should be automatic in the first team.
Morgan and Gornell for me every time from the options available. If offers come in for Collins and Bradshaw-take them. Both could fetch reasonable prices and both out of contract in the summer. We don't want to lose either of them to Scotland for zilch.
difficult that one, but as you said Morgan gets in the right possitions but just cant seem to hit the target.thats the sign of a poor striker
Is Torres of Chelsea fame a 'poor' striker then, or would you say that was NONSENSE? Strikers, like every other player, go through bad spells. It's just much more noticeable for obvious reasons. It doesn't make them a bad, or poor player. Likewise, why are the boo-boys getting on MW's back? He's one of the better players we have & has waded in with plenty of goals since being here? If we are to get out of this division we'll be relying on players like MMM & MW to turn it on when needed.
Who should start then? Gornell hasn't scored that many either, but Morgan is top scorer with nine - halfway though the season. Marvin Morgan gls=9 -app 26 sub 4 Mark Wright---gls=8 -app 30 sub 1 James Collins--gls=7 -app 12 sub 12 Terry Gornell --gls=6 -app 16 sub 10 Tom Bradshaw-gls=1 -app 6 sub 4
when fit, mw tg and mmm every time. agree sell on or loan out tb and jc. on this basis we may need 1 or 2 further men up front
I think we've fallen short up front this season & if it were possible, would be happy to see anyone from Collins, Bradshaw & possibly Gornell to go in order to get this blessed GOALSCORING striker (whoever he may be).. The fact is, we're unlikely to find someone in January as the only strikers available are those that aren't playing for their current league clubs. Alternatively, we take a punt on someone like Jon Shaw from Gateshead, who turned down £40K from Luton recently?
A lot of the balls get in to the goal area by aerial route. If more were slotted through at foot level I think we might see a change in fortunes up front.
Bradshaw signed a new two-year deal earlier in the season (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15124970.stm), although I'm sure you're right about Collins' contract. I've always stuck by Collins, I rate him and I think him alongside Morgan or Gornell would be the ideal striker partnership - one pacy/technical player and some dumb muscle (also our most natural goalscorer). Bradshaw needs to go on loan imo, he's an excellent prospect and will improve.
I rate Morgan, Collins and Gornell. Just wish that they scored a few more! As said above maybe a variety of tactics might solve it.
"Bradshaw signed a new two-year deal earlier in the season (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15124970.stm), although I'm sure you're right about Collins' contract." Never trust Wikipedia. I thought that they were incorrect, so I have added that info. Cheers
if only they knew!! Gornell has not great stats either. There are plenty of games left and by the end of the season it will hopefully be more like 20 goals in 46!
