GORDON Strachan put his foot in it live on TV last night with an ill-judged comment towards heart attack *footballer Fabrice Muamba. The pair were covering Europa League football for ITV4 when Strachan said to Muamba: âThe last time I saw you, you were dead.â Former Bolton midfielder Muamba was clinically dead for 78 minutes after suffering cardiac arrest on the pitch while playing last March. Strachanâs comment was met with an embarrassed silence from the player before presenter Matt Smith quickly moved on. Viewers immediately took to Twitter to complain about the former Celtic boss, who is the favourite to become the next Scotland manager. One wrote: âHope ITV4 and ITV football apologise for Strachanâs tasteless jibe at Muamba.â Strachan has faced *criticism in the past over jokes he tried to make in his comments to the media. When asked how to cope with pressure, he once said: âTake drugs, drink and smoke.â And when a reporter asked him for a quick word, he replied: âVelocityâ and walked off. No one at ITV4 was available for comment last night.
He kept them up for years, until lack of investment caused the inevitable to happen. Their loss was Southampton's gain. During Saints 2002/3 FA Cup run, a reporter asked him what he thought about all the ginger wigs the fans had started wearing. He replied "ah thought ah saw ma granny." As I said, legend.
A misguided comment which was doubtless not in any way intentional. When you think of some of the stiuff presenters have said in the past it's hardly hold the front page stuff. I'm sure if Muamba was offended he'll get an apology
The saddest thing about it is all the ****in mopes who rushed to the twittersphere to register their horror and disgust. Sometimes I ****in hate the Internet.
What made it bad was other presenter chiming in with "yeah, we thought you'd be shaking hands with gary speed"
And I never said you did! My comment was about the the enevitable (sp?) fall out there wil be ... i.e twitter ****s
The Internet = an international carnival of tragic ****s talking ****e. Your not meant to take it seriously, I don't think.
