The will he wonât he return to Newcastle United scenario has been going on for quite a while for Fraser Forster, but if the young goalkeeper does return to the north-east then SPL Champions Celtic might just swoop for Sunderland âkeeper Craig Gordon instead. 24-year-old Forster is well and truly behind Dutchman Tim Krul in the goalkeeping pecking order at St Jamesâ Park and during his second consecutive season-long loan at Celtic has impressed Bhoys manager Neil Lennon enough for him to make a firm bid. A permanent transfer of around £2 million is being touted and with Newcastle having tied down Krul to a long-term deal and recruited Rob Elliott as backup âkeeper earlier this season, Forster is hardly a wanted man at St Jamesâ Park and is unlikely to be in Alan Pardewâs plans going forward. With two years left on his contract, Newcastle will want to get at least some money for their talented shot stopper, but with Sam Allardyceâs West Ham sniffing around, Forster might just be tempted to move to Upton Park if the Hammers get promoted back into the Premier League. With West Ham interested, Lennon is understandably keen to get Forster signed up permanently sooner rather than later according to the Scottish Sun and will not want to lose him having spent two years developing Fraserâs talents. If Forster was to return to Newcastle or move elsewhere south of the border, then the Scottish Sun is also reporting that out of favour Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is Lennonâs second choice in between the sticks. Gordon, who signed for Sunderland for £9m back in 2007, is out of contract in the summer and the Scottish international hasnât made a Premier League appearance this season after a long-term knee injury. While he was on the sidelines Craig has seen Simon Mignolet and Kieran Westwood move ahead of him in Martin OâNeillâs plans. So as Celtic look ahead to their summer transfer activity, it could well be a case of Newcastle gaining a goalkeeper in Fraser Forster and Sunderland losing one in the form of Craig Gordon. *** IMO, LET HIM GO. his injurys dont do nowt for the club, or for his future clubs, and as a supporter, Id almost forgotten about him. hope pardew buys him.
I mentioned on another post about his wages, with them being keano's wages then i think he'd have to take a pay cut nyway and they could be spent on other players. So im with you on this one and let him go. I liked him and he is very good keeper but very injury prone.
When fit he is our best keeper but 45k a week is a lot to pay for someone who plays so little. Think we'll have to take the hit and let him leave. That is unless he's prepared to drop his wage and sign some kind of play related bonus.
I think he has been unlucky with injuries, he had no serious ones until he came to play for us. His broken arm wasnt due to being injury prone, and his knee should be ok now that he is back, he isnt a player that is going to rely on fast sprints and hard twists and turns which put stress on the knee joints.
Brokemn arm was Jermaine Defoe's ****ing dirty little bastard fault!! And we never even got a free-kick for the challenge which Broke Gordon's arm! I rate Gordon very highly when fit but sadly those words are very operative as he hardy ever is (unfortunately!)
I think Forster is a done deal moreorless. Shame for us as I think he has potential but understandable as nothing will shift Krul now. I rate Gordon really highly but as I said the other day he is in danger of becoming another Chris Kirkland. Loads of ability but never off the sick bed. I think he is your best keeper but all three are handy. If they can't get him fit, little point in retaining his services. Is he really on 45K per week?!!! Ship him out if so and they don't think his injury problems will go away.
I think Gordans name is only getting thrown around so we don't take advantage that Celtic want our keeper so much. Almost a case of 'We we'll have him for cheap but if not it's no problem, there is loaddsss of other players we can get instead...'
Why would Pardew buy Gordon? It's Celtic who are after him if Fraser Forster doesn't make his loan into a permanent deal..
Sshh alcohol i think....think the op just got mixed up, look at the spelling of the thread.....maybe a tipple or two had been consumed..
that forster fella is a very very good goalkeeper by all accounts, if krul is leaving then forster would be more than capable of filling the void, paving the way for gordon to join celtic, but it's all if's and but's and journalists will be having a field day in the summer
