People moaning about Holt on here seem to have very short memories! Now I'm going to use my old car as a metaphor to illustrate my point! Every cold morning I used my car I defrosted it by turning on the engine for 15 minutes before I left. However, this didn't help the pedals. It usually took driving a couple of miles with excessive use of the pedals before they worked smoothly and after that the car worked brilliantl! Every cold morning was the same problem with the same solution and same outcome. In three seasons at the club Holt has had a slow start to the season but he has always recovered from it and ended up being brilliant. As with my car warming up pre season can only go so far. I need to drive my car a few miles to get it workin properly like Holt needs a few games to be playing well. If one morning I suddenly started complaining about my car doing the same thing that it has done every cold morning you would think I was mental. My current car doesn't have the same problem and after being heated up before I drive off it works fine. This is because every car is different just like every player is different. To suddenly moan about a player about what has been happening to him the last few seasons is unbelievable! Pre season can only go so far. Oh and instead of moaning about him get behind him instead!
spend some money and trade it in for a better model You really shouldn't have started this thread: Just joking
I understand your point wonky and have sympathy with it. However, as I have posted on other threads, my particular concern relates to the contract negotiations in the Summer and whether the increased pressure resulting from those very public discussions may have had a counter-productive effect on him and that this has affected his form. To balance this, I have also mentioned that he has started the last two seasons slowly and it may eb that it takes him longer to get in the swing of the season. I am fully behind him however and sure he will come good, there is no doubt that CH has faith in him although for me maybe a start on the nech may not go amiss for the Newcastle fixture.
I've got a new car now, but as I said in the op I knew why it didn't work properly and found a solution.
I understand the worry with regards to the contract negotiations but we are only four games in, as far as I'm concerned we are at the same stage as we were the last few seasons with him. If he's still under performing after eight games that's the time to start worrying and consider whether the contract negotiations affected him. But as things are in effect 'normal' then the concern over contract negoations shouldn't be considered until things aren't normal. By normal I mean that Holt's slow start should be considered normal.
Would it be closed down if I started a thread called "the official 'get down on your knees and beg grant holt for forgiveness' thread"? ... Just so I can bump it up later. Dave? Maestro?
May I also add that the only reason I got rid of the car, despite it being perfect to drive, was because it was ugly and crap at helping me get the ladies!
I don't really think a slow start should be considered normal, because at the end of the day Grant Holt's job is to put the ball into the net and their is no logical explanation why it would be harder at the start of the season. But I'm not worried because Holty has played pretty good every game I've seen him (Except Fullham which was hard to judge) so I'm sure he'll find the goals soon enough!
Wonky? want i want to know is did your car go on twitter during the summer asking for a service, then breakdown, then after the service amazing started to work again?
To continue the car metaphor I got a puncture and had to put on the spare tyre, later I got rid Of the spare and the cars handling and speed improved
I would consider it normal as it has happened every single season he's been with us. The possible reason, as I stated above, may be because pre season can only go so far and every player is different.
Yes! The clutch snapped and I had to push it to the garage then it worked! Not every breakdown means it's the end!
I was really happy that GH stayed with the club over the summer and felt that he did deserve a pay bump for his contribution to the club over the past three seasons as without his goals and presence I doubt we'd have climbed two divisions and retained premier league status last season so it seemed pretty fair that he got his raise and extension. However with all that being said the club have kept up their end of the deal so the absolute least I would expect is for Holty to be match fit come the start of the season. I know he has historically been a slow starter but this league is not new to him any more and everyone starts the season having played zero league games so I don't see this as an excuse. I believe that he will come good but it frustrates me that didn't seem to put his usual shift in on Saturday.
