Stoke City today became the first Premier League club to show their hand in the race to sign £10m-rated Wolves striker Steven Fletcher. The Potteries club are understood to have asked about the 25-year-old and boss Tony Pulis is pondering whether to step up his interest with a bid. Pulis is also a big admirer of Fletcher’s team-mate Matt Jarvis and has been linked with a £6m move for the once-capped England international. But it’s Fletcher he has asked Wolves about first, an enquiry which is expected to trigger further interest from a host of Premier League clubs. Wolves are seeking £10m for the Scottish hot-shot after paying Burnley a club-record £7m back in 2010. Sunderland remain the favourites for Fletcher’s signature after being heavily linked with him since the end of the season.

TNB not too bothered if we get Fletcher or not, I watched him when we played Wolves, as even then he was considered a target, he was OK better than Bendtner (who isn't) but did not pull up ant trees!

I respect peoples opinions but have to disagree. Fletcher would be ideal/perfect for us. He had the best chance conversion rate in the league and scored more headed goals than any other player in the prem.

Yes 10m sounds alot but Southampton just paid 7m for Jay Rodriquez and we paid 8m for Wickham

Fletcher is Premier league proven. I think he'd get 15+ here next year if we get him.

He's also got 4 or 5 goals against us in the past couple of seasons.

The lad is a goalscorer, we need a goalscorer.

He's also a grafter, we love grafters.

He's coming into his prime, and has a great record in teams weker than us.

I'm mad keen on the lad, up top with Van Wolfswinkel, I'd be delighted with that.

Fletcher is an ideal player for Sunderland. He should be our number one target, a striker that scores goals, works hard and is a team player.

Anyone that disagrees is a fool. Who else are we gonna get that has all these qualities, remember Sunderland are not a big name club and our location isn't ideal for a player with a family.

Most supporters from what I have read seem pretty keen on getting him.

I haven't met a single person in the flesh who's against it.

If he was French/Italian/Spanish for the same price with the same stats, everyone would be buzzing for it!

    Mad world.

Have watched the same lad? He has been fantastic for Wolves and Burnley, both against us and in other games I've seen him in.

This is my number 2 target, after Johnson, for me this summer. 2 players that would ignite our team to squad to bigger and better things.

Get him on a 4 year deal ASAP.

Totally this. That big plank Hulk will cost £40m this summer for some poor fools and his track record is average.

Fletcher has 12 to 15 goals a season for 3 EPL seasons for struggling clubs and just as important, he works like a Trojan for the team. This lad will be another Bally/SKP/Quinny type of hero at SAFC imo.

His goals record is brilliant considering he is mainly used as a Sub, I think he could be a tank

I would be gutted if he goes elsewhere. Considering the prices banded around for other strikers, £7mill would be good business IMO.

Also his step dad sat next to me a few seasons ago when he played for Burnley. Random but true!!

Right I have been effectively told to hold fire on Fletcher cos' he is going to be great...OK we will see, I will be very happy to be proved wrong. On Cest's other target Johnston we are very much in agreement, he will I fear cost more than Fletcher and want more wages but he very good IMHO.

It's not a case of trying to tell you you're wrong mate, it's a case of trying to tell you WHY your wrong ;)

1 in 3 in **** teams, add Seb & McLean (maybe Johnson..) and I reckon we have an 18 a season striker.

That would have have us 7th last season.

To be honest you'd think he'd fit right in at stoke. Anyone who's 6ft+ and good in the air can be fantastic at Stoke.

Fletcher with Sess behind him would be class for us personally

also if its true and Saha is close to signing as well I think if and when we go two up top Saha and Fletcher would be a canny partnership
