We had a big fundraising event in work today to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care (a fantastic cause). My department held a raffle, with loads of nice prizes; wine, cakes etc - I bought some tickets, but unfortunately I couldn't stay for the draw as I needed to pick up a van this afternoon - 2 of my kids return to Uni this weekend. In my absence, my colleagues kindly picked a prize on my behalf - I suspect a stitchup.......
Our DEPARTMENT raised more than £700 - the entire company will be much more. I suppose if being lumbered with some STFC bits gives the folks a laugh (they are all fully aware of my allegiance) then it's worth it. I'll give them to a mate of mine's son who actually supports them.
good all round... Somerfield used to be a massive supporter of MacMILLAN, I once took a whole pallet of wine to their HO on the south bank of the Thames it was quality wine .. ABOUT £4K, for use in fund raising events, was asked to do it as a favour, in other words as cost of fuel and CC ... didn't even get offered a cup of tea or glass of water after carting 30 odd cases UP STAIRS AND ALONG A CORRIDOR, all the staff were interested in was what was in the cases and how much it might cost, and the odd ummm "think I might put in a bit for this one! ( each case was either 6 or 12 bottles of mixed wines, from the whitchurch head office samples or stuff for directors I would guess ) .. I often wonder when I go past that office how much actually went to proper fund raising events, all I hope. I support 2 charities CLIC SARGEANT and Action for Children, next year any sailors out there would like a week sailing part of the coast line of the UK let me know Minimum is £100 foer a maximum 10 days..its fun...
