seen this morning news is filtering throught that we are now pursuing mertesaker as our primary centre half target, is this is us continuing to have to do things on the cheap? I dont understand why we have now given up on two accomplished centre halfs, who are used to the premeir league and will require no settling in period for any other reason that having to search for budget signings. Maybe thats why we seem to miss out on so many players...and too think i thought we would get messi:cheesy:

Mertesacker is quality; a far better defender than Cahill.

Mertesacker has 75 international caps, how many do Cahill and Jagielka have between them?

    Mertesacker is World class.

Hes very slow guys. Can Verm cover that part of his game sort of how Rio covered Vidic lack of pace for us?

    Otherwise good signing.

I think Verm vs Celtic proved that he has the pace to burn.. However I fully expect a change in defensive tactics with Mertesacker in the squad.

If mertesaker was 'world class' why would he still be at werder bremen? He's good but i stil feel cahil would have been better. You are also ignoring the settling period that is bound to occur, and with the season already underway thats hardly what you need. Nevertheless we seem to have him now so lets see how he fairs!

I don't agree with the whole 'if he was so good then why was he at X' argument. Players like Diego Milito, Antonio Valencia and Sol Campbell have shown that people who have been at average clubs for their whole careers can still be a success at big clubs

Tony Adams was no Usain Bolt but he knew how to defend, get him signed (Per that is not Adams)he's an experienced and dogged defender, exactly what we need.
