Torquay have 28 days to appeal but have been deducted 1 point and fined for their game against hereford. They didn't gain anything from the game so a point seems a bit harsh to be honest, but we will take all the help we can!!

I assume that will now put them level on the same points as us but with them having a far superior goal difference?

Hopefully it won't all come down to this, if we do our job properly, although will Torquay appeal against this, I'm not sure, I read somewhere that it might have been 3 points?

Sadly as you state harryheadbutt, we need all the help we can!

Leaving aside any benefit to us, it seems a rather bizarre decision from the FL. Why should they get different punishments? They both fielded unregistered players, so why should the points deduction be different? I would have thought that as a starting point Hereford should lose the points for the win, and then any further points deductions should be the same for both clubs. But I suppose that's the drawback of applying logic to the situation.

Yeah we shouldn't have to rely on this as we should not be scraping to get play offs place.

I feel that the points deducted should have been the same for both clubs be it 1 or 3 points, it was unfair on Hereford to have 3x the deduction for the same offence.

As for scraping for a playoff place, I would have bitten your arm off a few months into the season if it had been offered. I for one am glad to be in the mix at this stage of the season after our start to the season, I feel a win Saturday is a must due to the form of the teams around us.

Been having another look through articles elsewhere on this topic.
    So as I understand it..

Hereford won the game that they fielded their player in so hence 3 point deduction.
Torquay lost their game they fielded their player in but received a 1 point deduction, which meant they actually lost 4 points in total.

Hereford are unhappy though because they as I understand it only just missed the deadline, whereas Torquay were many hours late.
I believe Hereford may appeal, Torquay I would suggest are better keeping quiet <laugh>

Although to sum it up for me, late is late regardless of any many hours it is and exactly the same penalty should apply to all, whether that was a win, draw, lose game, they both broke the rules in exactly the same way.

Agree BRB same penalty should apply to both. The fact that Torquay lost is irrelevant, they broke the rules so 3 points the same as Hereford should apply or both should have had one point deducted.

Wish they both just got a three point deduction.

There are two possible punishment combos - both of which would have stood on logical footing.

    1) Torquay and Hereford both deducted x points, as they have both broken the rules in the same way.

    2) Hereford deducted 3 points - they shouldn't have the 3 points for that win, as they fielded an ineligible player; Torquay deducted nothing, as they gained no points from the game in which they fielded an ineligible player.

But obviously the FA has used some other criteria.

Here's a thought... shouldn't Hereford have their goal difference reduced as well, to cancel out all the benefits they gained from that illegal victory?

I know it helps us bt Torquay losing 1 point but really number 2 is more like it as they got the points but then Torquay get away with it, Really I think they should just both of lost 2 points for what they have done.
