now that the transfer merry go round has finished, all the teams can take stock of their new look squads.
who do you feel has come of the best?
and has it changed anyones views on the outcome for teams, especially safc (cue the mags are doomed comments)
i reckon we'll still finish where we are, but please stay injury free gyan

Down to us and how well ess and Mutari settle in and of course luck on the injury front. I can only see Liverpool, being a big threat but its in our hands. I would still be happy with a top ten finish but sort of want 6th now.

if we finish 7th i will be very happy, anything above is a bonus. we can then push on next season after hopefully another couple of quality signings in the summer. at the moment i am not sure we are ready for europe (look at fulham) and need a stronger squad to help cope with the extra fixtures. on the other hand it would be nice to rub the mags noses in it

I said in a previous mail that I was worried about the resurrgance of Liverpool, and that worry has only gotten bigger (Suarez, Carroll, Gerrard, Kuyt = loads of goals). Blackpool has a little more depth, and I see Bent doing the business for Villa.
But when it's all said and done we have the ability to hold our own against the best, but do we have the little extra to make it top 6 in the next few months? Don't want to jinx it...

my hopes at the beguining of the season was to finish 8th, would have loved to have had the balls to say 7th but well I've been around too long, had high hopes and felt like **** at the end of the season

Now I recon if we can have an injury free run we could just about scrape 6th

I think the next 7 games will be the deciding point as to where we finish, we have Chelsea (h) Stoke (a) Spurs (h) everton (a) Arsenal (a) Liverpool (h) Man City (a)

I'm going to tempt fate by noting that a win tonight would leave us 5th and only a gnats pube away from 4th. But screw that, more importantly we would have 40 points - safe from relegation in February! Who would have thunk that?

    Aye, too right!

During this same period (to the first week of April) Liverpool play Chelsea (a) and Man Utd (h). The significance of the March 20th fixture is increasing. Post our next seven games, Liverpool still have to play Man City (h) and Arsenal (a) and Tottenham (h) in May.

If we can place ourselves in a good position come the first week of April our run in ought to be much smoother than anyone elses'. Although saying that, our record in games where we'd consider ourselves the favourites was below par in the first half of the season.

Tough tough run in for the next few games. But, remember after that, there are a lot of "beatable" teams, which we should be aiming to beat. Even if we only manage 6 points, we should be gaining a vast majority of the points we'll get from those later games.

7 points from the next 7 games will leave us with a great chance of 6th place - as long as 3 of those come from the Liverpool game.

Any more than 7 points and then only our amazing ability to play like sh!te against the bottom teams will stop us.
