Well what a season it has been; tipped to go back down with a record low points tally that took that record from Derby, instead we didn’t figure in the relegation battle at any point in the season – we stuck to our footballing philosophy and survived in the best league in the world quite comfortably! Still had to pinch myself when sitting in front of the big screen in the Bryn-y-Mor watching the graphic that announced ‘Super Sunday – Manchester United v Swansea City’! How far we have come; 10 years that have seen us go from the brink of relegation out of the football league to sitting proudly mid table in the Prem!

If the Swans story of the last ten years was made into a Hollywood film – people would say it was too far fetched. That is the enormity of what we have done, a club that was on its knees; bought for a pound from prick Petty by a group of Jack legends that have taken us from ignominy to glory! I have followed that rise from the Vetch to the Liberty, used to buy tickets on the day for every match, but became a season ticket holder 5 years ago when it started to dawn on me that we could be destined for big things! The much maligned Kenny Jackett got the ball rolling, Martinez got us playing a continental passing game (was as disappointed as any Jack when he left, but couldn’t bring myself to bear him any ill will!), Sousa came and went – was a blessing in disguise when we didn’t get promotion under him as I believe we would have come straight back down – and then came Brenda; the perfect fit for us – right man at the right time – he has built on all the good work that preceded his appointment and took us to a higher level.

And guiding the good ship Swansea through bad times and good was Huw and the board; they have made one blindingly good decision after another and I thank God that we have them on our side! What they have achieved has been nothing short of miraculous! And so here we are looking forward to another season in the top flight; as much as I enjoyed the Championship, the Premier League is a far superior animal in every single way; the games are better, the atmosphere is better, the TV coverage is better, everything is better, and the best thing of all is not having to stay up ‘til stupid o’clock to watch the cock Claridge on the Football League Show – the BBC’s equivalent of anal discharge!

But as good as this season has been there are still some negatives; the national media has been ill prepared with some really crap reporting; getting the names of players wrong and, my personal favourite after the Liverpool away game reported in the Daily Express; half way through the article the numpty who wrote it typed ‘Cardiff manager Brendan Rodgers…’ – will these arseholes ever learn!

Watched the Swansea v Manure game at the pub and was totally pissed off with the sycophantic knobs at Sky sport. Constant, and lengthy, cut aways to Manure legends like Bobby Charlton whilst the Swans were in possession, constant replays of Manure ‘chances’ whilst the Swans, again, were in possession and the condescending attitude of ‘how many will Utd score against little Swansea – bless ‘em’.

The coverage didn’t start well for us Swans when, before the match, a graphic was shown detailing Man U’s highest goal tally Premier League wins – it was like the coming match wasn’t going to be a contest; just shooting practice for the demi-gods from Old Trafford! It didn’t get better during the half time interval either – with the Sky pundits poring over Manchester United’s chances; no problem I rather naively thought – they’ll have a look at the Swans chances next – did they bollox!!!

Now I know the Man U were the ‘box office’ team – but I was under the impression that a football match usually consisted of two groups of players, but the attitude from Sky was that we were just making up the numbers; well we were not just ‘making up the numbers’ – we gave them a good game and, whatever Mancini may have said before hand, it was never going to be an easy win for the red devils! Okay, they won the first half quite comfortably but when likkle Leon came on in the second we caused them quite a few scares! We were never going to be a ‘walkover’, and I object to the patronising tone that was evident throughout Sky Sports coverage of the game, even down to the stats that were flashed up during the match; we get a corner and immediately there is a stat box proclaiming triumphantly that United have had more – nah nah nana nahh!

I would like to leave this rant on a positive note – we are not going to win any trophies this season but, as it stands at the minute, neither are Manure – so the last word must be from the magnificent Jack Army travelling support who out-sung the prawn sandwich brigade for the whole game; my personal favourite alluded to the lead Utd had a few weeks ago – ‘8 points and you f**ked it up!’

I have loved our Premier League adventure and look forward to doing it all again next season – these are the ‘best of times’ so let’s enjoy it to the full; we are little Swansea and we have shown the Premier League that a little team with f**k all finances can succeed with a squad of honest professionals who play the game as it was meant to be played; we should be so proud of our squad, our management and our board – they have performed miracles and have taken us from ‘down and outs’ to Premier League in an incredibly short time – I salute everyone associated with SCFC – legends every man Jack of them!

Anyway, onwards and upwards – anyone know where I can get an Elvis costume for next Sunday’s game against Liverpool?

<applause> Well said that man. I'm all for having a moan now and again at the odd thing here and there but we've had posters this season never let up with criticism, from how bad our players are, to team choice to tactics to even our style of play. This post puts it into perspective. We've done bloody great.

My mate is a Norwich fan and stands to win £1,200 after the last game if they finish higher than us. I don't care if Norwich win as long as we beat Liverpool. You know what? We might just do it. What a great finale.

Great read there cartoonhead! I agree the overkill from Sky with Manu, and I'll take great delight in the fact that City will win the title, and hope it's the start of the end of this one horse Manure race!................ <cheers>
