You all know I watch too many NHF races. For this season I thought I would compile a brief list of some bumper horses who will be going hurdling that I am sure will pay their way. BARTERS HILL - Ben Pauling An obvious place to start but one you might miss as not from a fashionable yard. BARTERS HILL beat Bellshill a shade cosily in the Aintree Festival bumper to remain unbeaten in four starts. He doesn't have a fancy pedigree and cost a mere £16000 but he really is an imposing looking true National Hunt type of horse. He has the stamp of a chaser and will be an exciting prospect in that sphere but in the meantime I am sure he is going to pay his way over hurdles. ROBINS REEF - Nicky Henderson She was only seventh on debut at Huntingdon but then won nicely at Market Rasen earning a place in the listed mares event at Sandown. That was one hell of a rough race and this one met plenty of trouble in running. Henderson wasted little time in sending her out to battle again and she trotted up in a nice race at Kempton. She was put away then and I fully expect Henderson will have a lofty mares campaign outlined for her. She will pay her way. Interestingly Geraghty has lost on her twice and Tinkler has won on her twice! STAR TROUPER - Philip Hobbs This lovely son of Kings Theatre is a half brother to Champagne West. He had just the won run at Wincanton when beating a nice looking animal from the Paul Nicholls yard. He could be called the winner from some way out. Will take well to jumping and is an exciting prospect. THEOS CHARM - Nick Gifford Unusually a debut winner for the yard at Huntingdon by five lengths he then went to Ascot where he found Wait For Me (see below) way too good. Undeterred the yard let him take his chance at the festival where for a 100/1 shot he ran a real cracker. This son of Presenting looks a chaser in waiting and whilst he may not be in the top order of horses over hurdles I am pretty certain that this shrewd yard will place him well. WAIT FOR ME - Philip Hobbs This French bred beat some nice types on his Ascot debut before being thrown in at the deep end. To be third in the Festival bumper on your second start is testament to something being very useful. I always feel the French breds come to hand early and I am excited to see what this one will do over hurdles this year.
Thanks stick for these! I will add them to my list to follow How come no Longsdon horses? Nothing really that special in the bumper dept??
His bumpers last year were not his best crop, he sadly lost his best horse. He has some nice bumpers for this season but his hurdles won't be up to much. Watch out for one called CRAZY PENGUIN.
WISHFULL DREAMING - Philip Hobbs A full brother to stable star Wishfull Thinking, was just touched off on bumper debut (over an inadequate 13F) and then won the listed bumper at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. Has already won on hurdling debut the other day at Worcester where he jumped quite big and novicey, but should pay his way in novice hurdles this season before probably going novice chasing next season.
I say Stick, old boy, when I read the headline of this thread I said to myself, ‘Cor blimey he’s going to go on a bit here about that, Yanworth’. But I see that you haven’t even mentioned him. To use a terrible Chav expression, ‘What’s occurring’?!? I thought you held him in the highest regard. The 5YO was a dual winner last term and then concluded his term with an excellent 4th in the ‘Champion Bumper’. Although Yanworth is probably most famous for Alan King’s anti-McManus operation rant prior to his run at Ascot last December!
I thought putting three in from the Champion Bumper was rather defeating the objective m'lord, may as well just print a list of the first ten home. Of all the Cheltenham runners I would wager that WAIT FOR ME achieves the highest hurdle rating this year.
