Steve Cotterill: Bristol City boss vows to stick to style.

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill will not change the team's style of football in response to their poor start to life in the Championship.

His side have won just once this term and sit second bottom in the table.

He told BBC Radio Bristol: "We will carry on doing the same things we are doing. I cannot see us changing and all of a sudden becoming a long-ball team that is direct and compact.

"That would be an easy way to go but we will not go down the route."

City won promotion last season playing a brand of fluid football and Cotterill is confident the same approach will pay dividends again.

However, he admitted they need a change in fortunes, starting with their trip to fifth-placed Ipswich on Saturday.

"We will end up taking our chances, we will end up playing the same football but we need that little bit of luck and we will have to earn that," he added.

Cant keep on losing and blaming bad luck or every other factor imaginable for 46 games.

Without some real quality being brought in I really fear for our ability to stay in this league and Ipswich is not a happy hunting ground.

This style of play and the stats..

    P8....W1....D2....L5...F9....A17....GD-8....Pts 5...Position - Joint Bottom.

A bit more flexibility and quality needed Steve.

Stubborn comes to mind-your team is not good enough SC,Surely you can see that after eight games.
Saturday was a practice match for Reading.
God knows what Ipswich will do Saturday.

If SC thinks we can/should play 3-5-2 then so do I.
PROVIDING he has players who understand how to play 3-5-2 and TBF that's down to him to make sure they do.
It's also down to SC that we get in 'quality' because last Saturday we only had 3 out there who looked Championship players.

I know you guys think I've got it in for Fielding but that's where I'd start.
He should have saved Reading's second, and he just looks way to small.

Rearrange these words. Stick Sand in Head your. Absolutely stupid comment yet again and I fear for our future and our sanity.

Has Steve Cotterill joined the other ostriches at Ashton Gate, and if he has then we are doomed?

Perhaps a wake up call vs Ipswich might rattle some cages, but when you are as asleep as our leaders clearly are it's usually terminal.

Isn't our current plight and the pathetic statements coming from those who should know better somewhat like re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic? The only problem we have is that we don't have any deckchairs and the ship is sinking fast.

It is entertaining but Saturday it didn't work for a whole plethora of reasons. Do we have the players for any other formation?

Perhaps this Is a disquise before a change of formation to stump Ipswich on Saturday. I doubt it

Where exactly is "Cloud cuckoo land"? It must be a wonderful place where SC lives without any problems, glorious summer sunshine every day of the year. It sounds like the dream place for the rest of my retirement from being a City fan!

I'm not quite sure where it is despite googling it many times. Perhaps the Somerset Riviera is better for your sanity cidered.

Ok Happy Clapper alert as I'm still not concerned. Ok we were awful on Saturday and deserved to lose by more than 2. We looked shaky at the back and Reading looked like scoring every time they broke and we never looked remotely like getting one ourselves. But this is one game only. Going 2-0 down early really scuppered us and we cant keep starting games badly but I still believe that in a majority of games this season we've shown enough to compete in this league. It would help if we could score first so we don't need to chase games because as we've shown when we scored early against Middlesbro (who have now won 5 on the bounce) we can defend when we have 11 men on the pitch. The performance in the next match against Ipswich is important if it is another inept performance like Reading lacking in fight and showing a team low on morale then I will lose my happy clapper tag and changed it to concerned If we play like we can and have this season and last season, regardless of the result then I will keep it for the time being as there will still be a 111 points up for grabs

The problem is, the more we lose - whether it be due to bad luck, bad decisions or simply poor play; our morale and self belief gets that tiny bit weaker - which makes a defeat more likely next time.
Telling the lads to keep trying the same thing every week when it has failed to deliver will only work for a short while.

Well, I sincerely hope it works, after all, everyone said we would be battered at Boro. I have bad memories of Ipswich however as last time I went there, they put 6 past us, and that was when we were doing really well....!

However, I do think that someone needs to have a look at Einstein's definition of insanity.... o_O

But we are doing the same thing and getting different results :). Ok we've had a couple of 0-2's and 2-4's but we also had a 1-1, 2-2 ,1-2 and, 1-0

In my opinion for what it's worth! A good manager should stick by his principles and SC is doing just that, a great manager would have a plan B if Plan A isn't working..
If that means long ball, then so be it.....I'm not a fan of long ball, but on occasions if needs must, then so be it.
We are a few quality players short as most have said on here, but in all honesty I think SC knows it too...
Instead of looking to pay silly money and silly wages, it would have been so much better looking down the leagues for up and coming players to come in...but that's gone so we have to dip in the loan market for players who can't get in to a first team..........Not so easy!

I've not given up hope just yet, although the longer it goes on, lack of confidence alone will drag us down..
