I was just wondering, if the worst should happen should we sell players or make them repay their debts to us by attempting to get us back up? The other question is do people think our current squad WOULD get us back up? I believe that with a good manager our current crop would walk the Championship (perhaps with one or two additions). I doubt we NEED to sell and with the exception of perhaps Ruddy I fully believe that these players owe us and should be made to stay for at least 1 year to get us up. I suppose it depends how badly some throw their toys. I hope none do and that they realise they owe the fans big time after a dissmal year.
I think it's going to be a huge struggle to get back up again, on paper yes we would have a very good squad if nobody leaves, but let's see what happens. 1. we need to get some of the high earners out who have not performed this season - eg Fer, RvW and Bassong 2. We need to retain players who are up for the fight e.g Snoddy and Turner. Although most of us think Snoddy will leave. 3. Some others will want to leave e.g Wes 4. If we get the right price cash then sell some of the better players on LT contracts eg JR and Howson let's just hope there's not too much turmoil in the squad! Will probably start in about 2 weeks with those out of contract....
I'm not sure why everyone assumes Wes will definitely leave, I can't imagine too many Premiership teams queuing up for him, the Championship is his level nowadays and I thought his beef was with Hootun? Having said that, the fact he's not been in any of Adams' squads yet may suggest there is still a bit of discontent going on behind the scenes, and that he may have played his last game for us already. I'd like to keep him personally, but only if he is up for it of course.
I personally would force players like RvW and Fer to stay (unless they threw a serious tantrum) but appreciate the risk is high. If they perform as badly next season as this then we'll have a very high wage bill for the Championship and nothing to show for it. I think the gamble is worth it though - our best chance of going up is next season, and I truly believe van Wolfswinkel would annihilate the Championship (bold words I know).
They got us relegated, they should be made to get us back up. And let's be honest on this seasons showing I doubt there will be offers flooding in!
There's no way any of them gets to walk on their terms that includes Snodgrass if he thinks he's off to Celtic think again. We don't need the money, you're all under contract now get on with it!
Agree Rich44:The club has been through an austerity period in terms of the football and creativity. The same feckers can now repay us and let us restore our faith in them.
I reckon a fair few of our players would stay there is a few I don't know about though and who I would like to keep: Ruddy - I wouldn't hold it against him either Snodgrass - same as Ruddy I suppose, although I think he is the closest thing we have to a leader Turner - would love to keep him, but may be a few suitors Howson - I think he would stay, but again who knows. Hooper Fer Nobody really knows what's going to happen in the summer, but I would certainly look to get rid of: Becchio RVW Pilks Bassong Us being in the Championship may be a good thing, for one a few of our young players could really try and cement themselves into the squad with more opportunities. We have some decent fringe players who could rejuvenate there Norwich careers i.e Fox, Surman and Wes who can all play at Championship level. All this depends if we get the right manager in, but I certainly think we can get ourselves back in the Premier League if we manage to keep the core of our squad, there is certain players who I would love to see out of the club as well though. Bassong being one of them who is on huge wages and has no way proved why this season.
I'd say Snodgrass deserves to leave on his own teams - he's been terrific for us in his time here and has always given 110% so he has earned a move away if he wants it IMO. Fer I would want to keep if possible I think he's a decent player although I doubt he wants to play in the Championship. RVW is a tough one, is there a good player in there? Hooper I'd love to stay but he might go somewhere else, same with Olsson and Turner. Don't see any of ours loans staying and the rest I expect will stay give or take a few.
It may sound harsh, but yes, plus I don't think he has done enough this season to warrant keeping him and I think we could get a good amount of money for him. Redmond would play a bigger role next year I imagine as well as the Murphys. So will he be needed?
Thing is we need Snodgrass, I'd make him captain he's got the passion and ability to drive the rest on. Unless silly offers come in I'd keep RVW it's not entirely his fault the whole team has been shocking and a season in the championship might just help him get his confidence back. Bassong, Pilks can def go, dunno about redmond he really needs to sort his final ball because that's been shocking. I'd look at getting a decent RB and CB as Martin isn't getting any younger and we still need a CB capable of marshaling the defence
If we could combine the majority of our current squad with and attacking manager who lets them play and the drive and fight that we have seen can be there but has also disappeared too easily this season then they could easily get us promoted. The question is one of attitudes and tactics not one of talent, we need leadership both on and off the field.
I don't think I've seen anyone that wants to keep Bassong but I'm not so sure. We shouldn't forget that he was our player of the season this time just 12 months ago and he was actually a long way from our worst player for the first half of this season. I'm assuming that the weight of the captaincy was too much and maybe his fortunes were too closely allied with Hughton's... maybe that is also why people are so keen to see him go. There is no doubt in my mind that, with the right mindset, he could be a real asset in the Championship.
There will be lots of offers, and some will be accepted. We have the best squad we've had in our history - unfortunately at no point during the past two seasons have we had someone who knew what to do with them. Others teams and managers know that, and the vultures are already circling. Only one i'm desperate to keep would be Redmond, and Hooper I think. Oh man, shouldn't have logged in...whole subject of NCFC ruins my entire mood... How utterly avoidable this whole sorry episode has been.
This ^^^ A catalogue of mismanagement from McNally downwards a complete and utterly unnecessary relegation and this is what really sticks in my craw. Hughton was ****ing things up for months and McNally and co. ? Well they just couldn't see the woods for the trees when it was blatantly obvious a change was needed. Shame on them, SHAME ON THEM !
I can't see the point in forcing players to stay on principle that they got us relegated. I'm not particularly enamoured with most of them and even if we kept them all I don't think we'd walk the division, it rarely works like that. I think the next managerial appointment is by far and away the most important thing, it could be the difference between being Wolves or West Brom. Player wise I don't think any of us will have a clue as to who will be up to a promotion winning side, could be anyone. This time next year the team will look nothing like the one now, there will be a big cycle of players moving on or in the reserves because they are not up to it.
Here we go again, same old bullshit And there was me thinking this was a discussion about which of our players we want to keep for next season....
