Mr Downing is allowed to leave Liverpool. So this begs the question, who else would you absolutely hate to see come to St Marys? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20744587
There is a transfer rumour thread - and this fits into that. And for the record - we shouldn't touch him with a bargepole.
Transfer rumour threads are for rumours and "like to haves". This is the opposite and just a bit of fun.
If wages are realistic (and they wouldn't be), I would welcome with open arms. As we've got with Lallana right now, he and Puncheon wont be fit to play every match. Likewise there will inevitably be period's where they're on poor form. So if we had the opportunity to bring Downing into the starting XI to replace them, then I'd be very happy. But like I say, his wages will be too much, and I don't see him being happy at spending a large portion of his time warming the subs bench of a relegation battler.
When Liverpool bought him, everyone on Soccer Saturday was saying what a great buy he was, should have moved quicker, etc. Only Matty said he wouldn't fit in and was massively over-priced, and got stick for saying it.
Downing was brilliant at Middlesbrough and Villa, I don't know what kind of coaching he is getting at Liverpool but they've turned him into a lemon. If he can get his old form back he could do a job for a lot of teams, I don't really see how he'd fit into our team though.
If we could afford his wages (which I don't think we can), I would have him like a shot! Look at the mess we are in now Adam is injured? What right footed striker are we going to play out of position and abuse because they look like a fish out of water? Rickie would love a propr winger swinging the ball over from the left.
Any definite news on Adam? Sounds bad and then you hear positive rumours...do they mean not too bad or not too bad for ligament damage? Must not rush him back though...I trust Adkins to do what is best for Adam in the long term.
I wouldn't mind us getting him on loan until the end of the season. That would provide cover for Adam but send him back to Liverpool at the end of the season and buy someone better in the summer, providing we stay up.
Wouldn't say no to Downing if his wages were reasonable. For all the stick he gets, he's not a bad player and I think he could do a job for a side like us. At a club that valued him, I think he could rediscover the form that got him his big-money move to Liverpool.
Into our squad, yes without any doubt. But right now, he wouldn't displace Lallana or Puncheon (if Lallana wasn't injured!).
no thanks, over rated. how he's ever got into the england squads is beyond me. done well at boro that is all. bit like beattie was for us, decent then never regained the form after moving on.
