In some ways I feel sorry for him. Good player whose fear of the local thugs has resulted in a largely unfulfilled and wasted career. He must be quite stunned that he'll retire without a PL winner's medal.
Probably just fishing for more money and an early contract offer from Liverpool. Can't see Gerrard doing a Rio and going to play for another club for a year - now his legs have gone I doubt anyone good would take him, unless it's as a squad player a la Lampard and Owen. Tho' tbh I didn't think Rio would do the same - looked like a recipe for disaster given his age and QPR's lack of coherence in recent years.
Or someone asked him what he thinks he'll be doing next season and he's responded by saying he'll be out of contract and he will be willing to listen to offers should Liverpool not be interested in renewing.
That's a fair comment. What surprised me is his departure from what they usually say "I'm not thinking about it. Negotiations are coming along and I'm confident it will get sorted. I'm just thinking about my football blah blah blah." It always raises an eyebrow (like it did with Vidic last season) when they say something like Gerrard has when he knows full well it will kick up media debate. I can't really see Liverpool not extending his contract though.

Owen did the right thing, it would have been a shame for a player of his quality to go through his entire career without winning the PL.
Owen saw sense that by moving to United he could win a prem medal. Difference was Owen was still capable of producing a good performance. Doubt if LVG would ever consider Stevieme, he just isn't good enough.
