in sky sports interview Stevie says we are eyeing the title.c,mon Stevie i realise it was a blow that man utd have won 19 but lets not get to ahead off ourselves cos we need to re-establish our position in the top 4,and believe you me that will be hard enough. So Stevie lets not put that sort off pressure on kenny and yourselfs and just go and play as well as we can and try and get the top 4 position first and then maybe next season we can maybe have asperations on the title
what is he supposed to say - we haven't a snowballs chence in hell of winning the league - if he said we couldn't win the league he would be slated for giving up on it before it even started
q Well I know I want and captain and leader to be positive.if he came out and said 'no chance best we can hope for is top 4' what kind of message is that to send to the rest of the team. You know Roy is gone and thats the sort of comments you would have expected from him but with Kenny back everything is looking positive.Of course its unlikely but shoot for the moon and all that!!YNWA
It was only a few days ago reports said he was playing down expectations to getting top 4. But considering our form under Kenny was 2nd in the league and we're spending to improve, with Utd and Chelsea both in a rebuilding phase themselves, a challenge isn't totally unreasonable to think possible. I suppose it depends how you interpret "eyeing the title," if those were the words. It's a bit of a way from "Next year is our year."
Whats wrong with building up confidence going into the season. I think we would all be surpised to see Liverpool win the league but you never know. In my opinion the top teams are the weakest they've been in 10 years evidenced by the low points tallies compared to previous and difficulty in winning away from home (by pretty much every team). I think the leagues there for the taking for someone but it might be a year too soon for us.
Gerrard is desperate to end his liverpool career with a league title but liverpool have very little chance of winning a title in the next 10 years, let alone the next 3 and that isn't a dig but honesty.
I haven't seen this interview so can't say much 'til I do. "Eying the title" is teletextspeak - no real person uses that phrase do they? This smacks of journo's hyperbole- maybe he's just being upbeat, wouldn't expect anything less than that.
I would love you crystal ball. Assuming you would have said the same about Chelsea in 2002 about chelsea, yet 3 years later they were champions. Not saying we will win the league just that a lot can change in a short period of time. A team can slip from 2nd to 7th in one season for example.
Can someone tell me why people are so quick to dismiss the thoughts of our captain who spends most of his day around the club, and has done for the last 10 years? If anyone is to know anything about what's happening then it'll be him, and if he's confident we can mount a title challenge, then surely we should look at what he says and let that add to our own confidence. He must see good things happening if he's ready to make a claim like that. Don't forget he's not the only one to come out and say that.. Suarez has too. I know a lot of fans are overly cautious, due to the last few seasons - but there is a difference between being pessimistic and cautious but hopeful. If you don't have faith, then what do you have at the moment?
Shanks said a similar thing: "Aim for the sky and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you'll stay on the floor."
Theres nothing wrong with aiming high,Stevie wants the title, thats what he's aiming for,He knows that he will have god-like status in Liverpool if he's the first Liverpool captain since Jocky Hansen to lead Liverpool to the title.
If the level of football remains the same as last year in the prem with so many points dropped, why the hell would you not think that if you play to as good as you can do then of course you are i with a shout. I would challenge anyone that decided thewy start the season as also rans, regardless of the size of the task, nothing happens without belief thats for sure
i take it from the replys here that you wouldnt expect anything less than a title challenge? well i thought that one off thing things liverpool fans had was a little common sense.so from 7th 09/10, 6th 10/11 and you reackon we can be prem winners this season? thought i was CRAZY!!!. all i am trying to say is go out and try to win as many games as we can and see what happens,if we come top of the pile at the end of the season well fantastic brill fab,but what i am trying to get across is we need to get champs league qualification as main priority.
Okay, I'll make sure to tell Blackburn, Leeds and Newcastle that they're still in the top 4 and they never dropped out of it.
It's not crazy at all. If Liverpool start the season with the desire to win the league then they set the tone for the rest of the season. If you don't do that then you'll not be in any position to take advantage of the slip-ups of your competitiors. To me, it's like the old sailing addage "Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst and take what comes". Now the majority of us on here are not part of the "this is our year" brigade. Sure we want to win, we want to see the style and commitment that is needed to win but we will accept a 4th spot as an improvement.
