Apparently BBC Bristol have just said that Ward needs to assess his fitness, so possibly won't be fit enough to start on Saturday.
Bristol Rovers: Steven Gillespie signs until end of season League Two strugglers Bristol Rovers have signed striker Steven Gillespie on a deal until the end of the season. The 28-year-old, who was released by Fleetwood Town at the end of January, will help to plug the gap left by Ryan Brunt's season-ending knee injury. "I've worked with Steven before at Colchester and Cheltenham," manager John Ward told BBC Radio Bristol. "He's got goals in him. With us needing a goal or two, he became a good find for me to come down and play." Ward continued: "He had an offer from another club but chose to come to us and he should be available for Saturday [against Oxford]." Gillespie, who had a spell with Bristol City early in his career, was one of Fleetwood's first signings following their promotion to the Football League in the summer of 2012. But his first-team opportunities became limited at Highbury after Graham Alexander replaced Micky Mellon as manager and, along with Shaun Beeley, Alex Titchiner and Ryan Crowther, had his contract terminated last month. "It's been an unusual 18-month period," said the ex-Liverpool trainee. "I got to play a month at Cheltenham [on loan] which I really enjoyed. I'm looking forward to some first-team football."
. Oh here's our new signing now he'd just turned up to speak to Radio Bristol. Welcome my friend please log in to view this image
My brother in law who is an arrogant 82er claimed that our problems were caused because we signed too many players with disastrous injury histories. Are we at it again?
Hi Guy's, Gilly is a whole hearted player, always gives 100% and will score goals, however a clue is in his nickname whilst at Colchester......" Tampax " in for 4 days out for 28.
i think this is another good signing for us. remember where we are at the moment..... struggling league 2 side. not many strikers want to come to a side like us. we have to be realistic about our situation. ward knows him well and knows what he can bring to us. 221 games and scored 59. averaging a goal just under every 4 games. we could do a lot worse! we got a lot worse already!
I liked him as a player for Colchester, as i said he always gave 100% and some of his injuries were because he was committed and scored many goals by chasing lost causes. I wish him well.
Could be good - he'll score goals at this level. But, as ever with our players - will he stay fit? That's the $64 million question.
Here is his twitter account..... https://twitter.com/9_gilly Here are a few of his tweets... "Happy to have signed @Official_BRFC can't wait for Saturday!" "Overwhelmed by support off the gas already! massive reason why I wanted to join the club, hoping to repay you all with few goals"
