Gerrard's penalty today brought his successful penalty kicks to 43. A club record.
It also means Gerrard has become the first Liverpool player in history to score in 16 succesive seasons.

    Hat-tip Mr. Gerrard

Anyone remember the last goal he scored from open play?

Just one more time, before he retires, I want to see a thunderbolt from Stevie from 35 yards which soars into the goal whilst Anfield go bonkers. Suarez's goals amazed me, Sterling's goals get me off my feet, but Gerrard's long range shots made me **** myself with excitement and not even care.

Some of his long range 'passing' today made me **** myself I tell thee. But that's a great stat though and there's still quality left in the old fecker, even if some of his decision seem to suggest the onset of dementia

He was by far the worst player on the pitch today.

Still another solid penalty today, who will be taking free kicks now though? I know Balotelli is quite handy.

Could be,just could be,his last season playing for the first team.Poor in the first half today, better in the second.

However, can still be inspirational and his pen. today was emphatic. A club legend.

Covered quite a few dangerous plays today with good interceptions, which is what he is supposed to do nowadays - gave the ball away needlessly a couple of times which was disappointing though.

Never doubted him for the pen <applause>

Needs to up his game from today but got better as it went on.

Nice little stat for him although I doubt he'll dwell on it too much.

    You're kidding, right?

Edit... Oh sorry, did you mean the shot, or the decision to award, it? I mock the idea that Dowd was not a total moron who gave decisions based on falling for the theatre of the players.

  11. That's what I'd guess around but wondered if some could say exactly. Obviously 43 is great though

I think stevies at his most exposed when hes up against two quality defensive midfielders like vs southampton and city. Its something that we need to look at otherwise teams are gonna pick 2 DMs against us all the time and if they are good enough they will punish us

total penalty on one view.... benefit of one replay and it's oh the idiot really set up allen to flop like a stuck pig.... it was a dive but the guy still was an idiot....

nobody but nobody can tell me live that didn't look a pen on tv and in the ground... well it was instantly given.

  15. If a team sits deep and defends, it gives Gerrard plenty of time on the ball to cause damage with his passing. However, if that team is strong defensively, our players struggle to find the space needed for Gerrard to make the pass. Ideally, Stevie needs a well balanced side that doesn't single him out as the main danger.

Defo pen. for me,but it was one of those where if Allen doesn't go to ground Dowd may not award the pen.

And it WAS a foul in the box.

Was a pen plain and simple. That happens anywhere on the pitch it is a foul every time.

Yeah Allen flops when he feels it but even pundits are starting to totally understand why that occurs as a ref has no bollox to give it unless you hit the deck

How is a team that "dits deep and defend" mutually exclusive from a "team strong defensively"? Your last sentence doesn't make **** all sense either. Try rubbing those two lazy fat brain cells harder, Greez.

  19. It was a soft penalty but its one of those where people will regularly come out with one of two statements:

    1) "If you're going to them we'd see six or seven penalties every game"

    and

    2) "If it was anywhere else on the pitch it would have been a freekick"

All I'll say is, the defender put his arm out forcing the referee into making a decision, blame him!

  20. How about understanding this...

Quit being a ****ing **** towards people and you can stay! #warning

As for you comment, the difference is a team can be asked to play defensively but do it poorly. Simply put, does a defensive setup always work to perfect or do the players **** up at times? If a team does it well then there should be no space to exploit and therefore Gerrard will also struggle to find the pass. If the team does it poorly then Gerrard destroys them.

The last bit is about Gerrard needed players to move and exploit space for him to be able to make such passes. So, teams that are more open suit him. however, not too attacking as this exploits Gerrards defensive weaknesses.
