Rangers boss Steven Gerrard turns down Bristol City job with John Terry wanted - EXCLUSIVE Bristol City want to make John Terry their new manager after being rejected by Rangers boss Steven Gerrard. By Neil Fissler John Terry is being considered by Bristol City to become their next manager after being turned down by first-choice Steven Gerrard. Rangers boss Gerrard is believed to have told the Championship side that he isn’t interested in moving to the West Country. Gerrard, who has spent the last two-years managing in Scotland, is ready to stay in charge North of the Border unless he has a dramatic late change of heart. Terry, who is the assistant head coach at relegation-threatened Aston Villa has indicated that he is interested in replacing Lee Johnson who was sacked two weeks ago. Villa boss Dean Smith is believed to be fighting for his future with his side three points from Premier League safety with just two games left to play. Terry, 39, has spent the last couple of years on the Villa coaching staff after calling time on a hugely successful playing career winning every club honour available with Chelsea. He has seen the success being enjoyed by his former team-mate Frank Lampard who is now in charge at Stamford Bridge after spending a season with Derby County. And he now feels that the time could be right for him to take his first-steps in sole charge this summer. Last year Terry underlined his ambitions to be a manager in the long-term after a glittering career with Chelsea. “In the long run that’s obviously my ambition but I’m not thinking that,” he said. “I’ve said as a player I got to the heights I wanted to get to and I firmly believe I’m a YTS (Youth Training Scheme) again. “I’m starting right from the very bottom, I’m not afraid to say that, I’m not afraid to do all the dirty work, picking up the cones, the balls, the bibs, that’s part of my education. “I’ve got a great teacher in Dean so I’m very fortunate to be able to sit there and learn. “I’ve always wanted to do it (coach). I think you know as a player when time’s up really. “It’s been something that I’ve been planning for a few years, and the experience and day-to-day work on the training field and what the manager allows me to do has been fantastic for me.” https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...ns-down-Bristol-City-job-John-Terry-EXCLUSIVE
I would suspect given that him and Mick McCarthy both available immediately that they were never on our list of choices. If they were I would think they would of been appointed by now. Probably because they are both managers not head coaches.
We have a extremely rich owner that has invested millions into Ashton Gate. But we have a clueless team at the top that do not understand that success is generally gained by having proven and quality manager/coach guiding the team. Would you send a plane or cruise ship out without having a quality pilot or captain on board. The owners are crazy when it comes to appointing a manager.Get yourself credible and proven guy in.
I had a feeling this might happen. I’m not terribly disappointed Gerrard isn’t coming, but I’m worried that he rejected US and not the other way around.
SL bought in a world class coach for Bristol Rugby and they're going great things, they always have talked the talk about getting to the premiership but have never hired anyone with the experience and know how, yeah i get it JT and Stevie G are big names and both would attract a lot of interest but if they are serious about it they need to pay the going rate to bring Someone in who's been their and done it. I won't hold my breathe though and i'm expecting a very disappointing and very underwhelming appointment just like the years gone by
Paul Cook it will be. Waiting on their outcome after the -12 points. Or possibly Alex Neil. These are only my feeling though not that they are definitely going to be true. Some one mentioned John Terry with Joe Edwards (Chelsea coach, not our ex player) as his second. We can write off Hughton IMO and that could be another one that RR said was definitely going to happen like he was in the know makes me laugh though.
We currently have a pretty successful set up at City .. youth through to first team … or get some money back when they dont hit the highest spots! Are they going to go back to season 15/16 tear up the book and go through the same motions of this pillar that pillar this coach that coach bin all the staff and pay off all the contracts and hit the reboot button instead of refresh? some of us on here might not make the next 5 years!!! and I don't just mean via natural selection! TAKE A LOOK AT THE CHAMPIONSHIP all of it not just City and see just how difficult it is to get that spots [ and when you get them how difficult it is to hold to them … a mega team like LEEDS have been trying for 16 years … and 19 managers …DERBY COUNTY ...13 seasons 10 managers just a couple of one time "big clubs"... others SHEFF WED … BLACKBURN!
We don't we hang on and see if Eddie Howe or Dean Smith are relieved of their duties as and when Villa and Bournemouth both get relegated, or even Sean Dyce if he quits Burnley. With the play-offs long gone, why make a knee-jerk appointment now?
No chance of Dyche, a Premier League team will take him. Plus he hated his time with us and the fans on his back. Dean Smith is strange because reading OTIB John Terry is blamed for their failure but no one would mind Smith? They spent a fortune last summer and look ****e in the Prem. Howe was ordinary at Burnley kept them exactly where LJ kept us. Bournemouth gambled on beating FFP when they went up. I think if they come down, they will fall further. On that basis they will try and keep Howe to prevent it.
, wonder what RR and RP think of this. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/former-bristol-city-manager-among-4343436
Surely not, his dad, uncle Pete, nor Steve Landsown have any input at that club, so how would he get a job there.....
Hughton -Warnock -Pearson Howe if he became available would be my first choice. The rest are Micky Mouse.
