Ok appologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. What does everyone think about this signing? Seemed to come almost out of the blue... or did it?

What kind of midfielder is he? Can he cover RM?! And do rangers have a hope in hell of getting compensation or stopping the deal?

Brilliant signing for us. Bit of experience in the middle of the park will be crucial. Can see him being captain after captaining N Ireland and Rangers and with Hammond 4th choice cm now.

The threads disappear because of Lamballana's one thread a day fix :p. There is 2 here some where <laugh>.

Davis will be class for us, good passer and a good leader in the middle of the park.

    Wow!

Everyone assumes Hammond is sh!t simply because he isn't a 'big names'.

I think he's one of those players that doesn't stop running.

    Goes completely unnoticed!

Maybe! Or it could be 5 tomorrow! People really do show a lack of common sense sometimes. The news of Davis signing was on Friday night. Before posting a thread on Davis today, not noticing another one - I would have thought, hang on, there must have been a thread on Davis by now, it's 3 days since he signed. And lo and behold there was - 3 of them! (Although 2 were made at the same time). I know they were moved to the summer transfer rumour thread, but that's an obvious place to look before posting a new thread.

    Here are the opinions of other fans on the deal (borrowed from 'Teamtalk');

weerwolf (Wolverhampton Wanderers): what a signing, wish we got him

a.brons-smith (Fulham): I really wanted him back at Fulham, he's a quality midfielder. Good Signing for the Saints!

jl22 (Manchester United): no disrepect to southampton but thought he would have got better club

waringjs (Aston Villa): Great signing for Southampton. Bit gutted that we didnt go in for him. Never wanted him to leave in the first place and a free transfer.

darren straight (Aston Villa): It's incredible just how many top level prospects our academy has churned out over the years. Steven Davis was one of the best back in the day, had a truly fantastic season for us in 05/06 where he looked every part the next great Premiership midfield General (in the mould of a young Paul Scholes). What ever happened to him?! The big boys came sniffing, O'Leary left and he dropped off the face of the Earth? Such a shame... Anyways, looks like he's had some success up north and wish him the best of luck at Southampton! UTV

This is all of them. Ergo, there was not one negative comment. And this from the same site on which, regarding the J-Rod signing, all the other fans comments were largely negative.

As I said, apologies. I checked sat and didn't see anything. My computer is slow and didn't trawl through pages and pages in the rumour thread. Which last time I checked consisted of people openly making up rumous then arguing with eachother.

From BBC Scotland Football Reporter Brian McLauchlin:

"Rangers have refused International clearance for the transfers of Davis, Lafferty, Ness, Whittaker and Naismith. more soon"

"The players new club request clearance from their own FA. They contact SFA who request OK from club. This has been refused by Rangers."

They don't legally have a leg to stand on as far as I know.

In any case, Saints, Norwich, Stoke, Everton and FC Sion will have explored the situation before signing the guys.

If it goes to court, so it must be!

Yeah, think it was MLG that said that somewhere, I'm sure The Don would have his back covered.

In fact, how can they even do anything anyway? Rangers no longer exist and Davis et all never even had any ties with the Newco.

Now I've thought it through all is good. :p

Yes mate there was.....We told the original poster we would give him 24 hours which we did as far as I know then we merged it into the rumours thread. This is what the majority wanted from the outset of this thread. We in our wisdom decided to give good threads some time to discuss individuals before merging them. we thought that would be what you wanted. maybe you would prefer them to be merged straight away? We have merged three so far a fourth will join in a little while. BT
