My eldest grandson (14) received a school presentation today, to mark winning the Welsh schools football cup. They now qualify for a tournament in Lillishall against other nations. As part of a charity day, he received his medal along with the rest of the team from City captain Steven Caulker. As they speak in Welsh only, they announced that questions about his Cardiff City future and any mention of Vincent Tan were not to be raised in the questions and answer section after the presentation. The thing is I don't speak the language, and nobody seemed confident about asking the big man....so trust Masky, I blurted out , "will you be with Cardiff City next season pal?" He looked embarrassingly at the officials and I was effectively asked to refrain from that line, in English. Fug me I thought! The distinct impression I got was that he will not be here next season if we are relegated. He went on to answer questions from the young audience such as: Best manager played under: Brendan Rodgers Favourite City player: Campbell Best City player: Craig Noone Funniest City player: Mark Hudson Best opponent: Suarez City player of the season: Marshall Best player in the world: Used to be Messi, but now Renaldo Best moment in football: Debut and goal for England Which brings me to another issue, the boys (England) are soon to be involved in a big tournament themselves this summer, and I know you will offer your support in wishing them well, they are amongst the favourites apparantly. Why not buy a shirt as well to show your support, a snip at £92?
Buy out clause? Given the deals (contracts) struck at that time, I hope there was a nice fat sum included that would can expect when he goes.
Caulker seems a nice guy, met him in whitchurch when he switched the xmas lights on. He is too talented for the championship and any number of clubs will snap him up. As for Marshy, personally i cant see him going. He has been highlighted as the best keeper in the league, however what we all have to realise is, he has also had to make the most saves in the league, therefore the benchmark is distorted. Personally i cannot see a big club going for him due to his achilles heel, which is his distribution. The players i see as at risk are. Caulker, Medel, Noone, Mutch. I would like to think that the following will be got rid of as a matter of course, Fabio, KTF, Kenwyn the lump Jones and a number of fringe players. I also believe that OGS will be given 10 games in the Championship, if we are looking dodgy then i do expect him to be replaced.
Thought I read that regardless of where Cardiff play their football at next season , Marshal will play for Cardiff. Read it just a few days ago.
Interesting masky. We've had a bit of a debate on our board about Caulker. He has quality but the bottom line is that he's been an integral part of a poor back line and that couldn't have helped his career. Marshall is the best in the Prem no doubt and has been subjected to more shots on target than any other keeper. That tells you something. Just a personal view but I think Caulker is decent but almost certainly overpriced. I know others here and on the Swans board disagree.
Well we would have paid to much for him wouldnt we ! MM and Moody made a right royal cock up of what players to buy and more importantly what price to pay. They got it wrong they got sacked (rightly so) so lets move on. I predict Caulker will go for 6 or 7 million. Then we will buy him back next year when we get promoted of the team he moves to and get relegated again. Predict Lesta.
Compared to Cornelius and Medel I don't think he was too over priced. Maybe £1m or so but not the same extent as the others and Brayford of course. If he goes we should get £7m minimum unless we do it on the basis of a fire sale - over to you VT. As for Medel we have to hope he has a brilliant World Cup which could then give us a price to cover most of what we paid for him. If not then he will go for around £6/7m also. Assuming we go down of course.
I think he's a good player with potential to be even better and would be happy if we were in for him but not at any silly price.
And that equals "overpriced" doesn't it? Rumours abound from some Cardiff fans he's off to Liverpool for £15M Now that's just mental.
