http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42504060 Sorry to read this, he was such a talent and really being touted as future regular at the heart of England' s defence when he was with us on loan from Spurs, to this. I wonder if Lee might take a punt on a short term contract and see if he can turn him around? Although left/centre defence is probably not a priority in Jan.
Had him down as and England certainty.. for a long time too.. Strange really, he had the whole dream.
I felt the same too... just such a waste when you consider how well Danny Rose is doing in comparison!! I also thought about him coming back here when I first heard the news, but I believe it's a step too far when the squad seems so well bonded!!
I think his addiction to gambling will cause unrest in the camp. As much as I predicted he would go very far in the game I don’t think I would want him back with us.
Coming here at the moment may be a very good thing for his mental health. It may also be a very bad thing for our squad togetherness.
Had a season with us in the Prem and looked class. Good pace for a CB with the ball at his feet and could pick a pass out of defence. Soon as we went down though he couldn't wait to bugger off along with Medel, Mutch and Campbell - couldn't blame him really. We sold him to QPR and got most of our dosh back, but he went downhill from there.
There is a thread running on OTIB about this: http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/to...d-merged/&page=2&tab=comments#comment-3094938
Money is the root of all evil someone once said and whether or not it was the reason for Steve's downfall is irrelevant because it isn't the first time we've heard this kind of sad story. He had the world at his feet and the future looked bright for him and now it is probably doubtful that anyone will take a risk on him due to the potential for dressing room morale.I wish him the best of success and hope that he will return to the game and recover his former shine but I'm not so sure that will be offered from Ashton Gate. If an offer should be made, given that just a few years ago he was a shining star in City red, I hope it is realistic and will benefit both parties. Still not sure though TBH.
its the blight of to much money! I think players should be helped a lot more especially when a sign of weakness becomes apparent? I think athletes at some point were awarded money/wage etc but drew most of it when they "retired for action"???"Maybe footballers should be paid a minimum / % and then paid out as a pension when hanging up their boots? Aguero etc would then get a pension pot of half a billion! lol....
