http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co....triker-morison-in-leeds-united-link-1-5334020 Better than any other striker we've been linked with this window, would definitely take him. Only stumbling block could be that he apparently wants £20k a week, but if you want to bring in quality...
Good player, but I struggle to see why we need another striker right now, unless Becchio really is on his way out...
Warnock's been banging on about getting a striker since the window opened. I don't think it has anything to do with the possibilities of people leaving (although if Becchio was to leave then Morison would be an ideal replacement IMO) and if we're going to get one he might as well be a quality player. A winger would be my top priority though.
He's top of my wish lis for a new striker for City. Very good player who would make a big impact at any club in the Championship, should he decide to drop down a division. Good on the deck and a beast in the air, a proper handful all round. He's be an excellent signing for either Leeds or Hull. £20,000 a week is a bit steep though don't you think?
I think a bigger show of intent would be the transfer fee. Signing players for a million + shows we're really prepared to compete for the signings of top players. Paying players £20,000 a week or more is just stupid unless they are really, ridiculously talented. Morison's a good player but he's not worth £20,000 a week.
But then wages and transfer fees generally come as a package in these days, especially as transfer fees are very rarely paid up front now. There would be no real difference between paying £1m more for Morison and paying him £20k for a year (except the latter would attract him here).
I get what you're saying, but I doubt GFH have unlimited finances, and if you pay one player £20,000 a week, half the squad will want parity and any potential new signings will want the same as well.
True, but Morison could be the "marquee" signing in January and then in Summer you'd hope the wage ceiling would be raised a bit.
I'd rather bring in a central midfielder or Gradel-esque player as our marquee singing - we already have two very good forwards in Becchio and McCormack, a very able deputy in Diouf and a real natural goalscorer in Somma. I get your point though
I don't think we need another CM, if Barkley's as good as he's supposed to be (and stays for the rest of the season as he's expected to) I'd say we're fine there.
The club is already haemorrhaging money base on the up to June 2012 accounts, the next accounts will be worse. This is not the time to go gung-ho as it is likely it will end up in a Portsmouth scenario. We built our last team in League 1 out of very cheap upcoming players. We can do the same again. But we need a really good manager to do that, not one whose sole intention is to buy players ad nauseam until he gets lucky. Raising the wage ceiling would not be a good business move for LUFC IMO
How the **** he demands £20k per week is beyond me - will scored 15 goals a season in this league, but will do little else when backs against the wall - a very lazy barsteward
Beckford wasn't the hardest of workers we've ever had. But he didn't do too badly for us TC. So Morison's work rate is the least of our problems. Judging by today, we should play Diouf out wide in a diamond formation, Barclay at the head of the diamond, Austin or AN Other at the base, Green or AN Other also out wide on the other side to Diouf & Becchio/McCormack up top. We should then ensure that we play footy through the midfield & on the floor to McCormack/Becchio, rather than hoof it up
I'm sick of ****ing hearing us being linked with strikers. Unless it's nailed on that one is definitely going, it's not an area of the field we need to strengthen in, let alone blow our budget on. Pace down the flanks had got to be our first priority. If the service to our front line improves, the goals will fly in even more. The bigger worry is goals going in at the other end.
EH, I disagree with your assertion that our priority should be pace on the flanks. Take White, for instance. Pace is spades, but can't deliver the final ball to save himself. Diouf on the other hand, has bugger all pace, but can deliver a sweet ball from the wing with his eyes closed. In fact, Snoddy wasn't exactly noted for his pace, was he? But boy, he could cross with deadly precision! So it's not pace we need necessarily, it's assists!
White would do well to do extra training in the afternoons, just practicing crossing. Might just be the making of him. Bloke called Backham did it for the entirity of his career. Didn't do him any harm!
