Mmm, not so sure on this one Beefy. He certainly did well earlier in the season but has really looked off the pace recently IMO, I wouldn't be too upset if he moved on in the summer. As I have said in an earlier post, I think we really need a top striker to help Holty next season and we should 'push the boat out' to land Rhodes or someone of a similar ilk.
Already has proved he is a good striker. He just seems out of sorts at the moment. Hopefully, he will get a few more goals by the end of the season.
I to thought he was good and I used to argue with my son about his ability but must confess I had to agree with him yesterday after a dreadful performance. Along with goalkeepers, strikers are the key positions. Not always but invariably the teams with the good strikers prevail because they can always reply if they go a goal down. I to am worried about our strikers. Holt is Holt and worth his wages. Jackson turned it around last season but that was in the Championship and this league is tougher. I'm really worried about Vaughan. He seems too injury prone. I hope he gets fit and strong close season and he ought to make it. Wilbraham is I would imagine about to leave the club. If Morison continues performing as badly as he has been then we don't have a great deal of back up.
Agree with redruth (great place by the way - I used to live in Porthtowan). Vaughan is very injury prone and while we all want him to get fit and do well I get the impression that he'll spend a lot of time on the treatment table and we may never get the best out of him - that said, we all nicknamed Zak "sicknote" when he first joined us and he's now the real deal so maybe we just need to give Vaughan time. Wilbs will be off in the summer as will Chrissy so we do need another established striker to cover and give us options for the Holt/Jackson/Morison/Vaughan places. It's been posted elsewhere about Rodriguez and Rhodes (I'd prefer Rodriguez tbh) but there doesn't seem a lot of other people who could come in and do a job. If Brighton don't get promoted (looking unlikely) I wonder if Craig Mucky-Duck might be an option again ?
Confused why we are talking about strikers to sign in the summer? We are all well aware of what's out there but it isn't going to help us now. None of the strikers suggested are in a comparable category to Morison anyway, he's a physical striker.
I think Morison is ok actually - ok, he has his doubters but I think he's a good striker who has a confidence issue at the moment but when he is on form (as in the first third of the season) he is a threat and has shown us what he can do. Just needs to get back into that groove and ignore all the people who berate him.
I agree that Morison is a good striker and doesn't deserve the stick he's getting. However, while I think he is lacking confidence, I do think he could help himself more in games - what I mean is, Torres for example hadn't scored in over 20 games before yesterday, but every time he plays, he gives 100% for the team. With Morison, it comes across that he doesn't do that in every game. In short, I don't think its right to put all of the blame down to his apparent lack of confidence.
He needs to be showing it NOW, he can't live on goals scored early in the season no matter how valuable they were. Morison's ball control and spacial awareness are not good enough for him to play as the lone striker, he seems to need the ball placed directly onto his foot or head, and if he doesn't get that service he looks lazy and uninterested. He needs to play with Holt in my opinion. Just for the record, I hate it when we play with a lone striker, it looks ugly and generally is. ILD OTBC
I don't think he's bad, or lazy particularly but recently he hasn't been effective, this isn't a league where you can wait for a striker to hit form. I reckon he will still be here come August but I think he might have fallen down the order a bit. Also I bet we sign a striker no one has suggested and that he's awesome and a bargin, as is Lambo's way.
Porthtowan one of my favourites, one to rival Norfolks fine beaches. Portreath is favourite port of call. Smells a bit sometimes though.
beefy is right - morison is a good striker - but he certainly isn't playing well at the moment. we know he is good because he was good for the first 20 games of the season. he was good for millwall before that. and if you ask any millwall fan they would say that he has big dips in form, as indeed many forwards do. he hasn't just suddenly become rubbish!! it doesn't help either when he gets sod all service like he did yesterday. i'd like to see him partnered with jackson against wolves (if lambert plays him that is) because i think having jackson alongside him will help his game. he'll do much of the donkey work as well but is totally different in style to holt or morison - i think it could work well but frankly morison needs a goal badly as you can tell he is very short of confidence at the moment and nothing is coming off for him at the moment.
There is something wrong with Morison at the moment and he does appear to want the ball more or less on his head or at his feet. This is a complete contrast to first half of the season when he was running the channels brilliantly and holding the ball up for other players. Who could forget the power of his header for his winning goal against WBA. I was just behind that goal.
I was there as well, great header as you say, but if it wasn't for Holt's perfect pin point cross it wouldn't have happened. Holt has far more awareness of space, and just seemed to stroll onto the pass with time to look up and drop the ball on Morison's head. I would like to see them both start against Wolves, with Pilks & Bennett supplying the service, really go for it! ILD OTBC
i thought bennett played pretty well yesterday. shame he didn't see enough of the ball (same with pilks) to threaten the home defence more often. agree about really having a go at wolves - hopefully we won't make a slow start like sunday as i think our slow start cost us a good chance of a point
Thought Bennett in particular had a very good game, was much more of a handful that he has been recently. I thought Howson looked lively too. Didn't think the game missed wes too much with him playing, good competition for that place.
I think the Sun summed up part of Morison's recent problems - lack of service. He's not the best with the ball at his feet, but put a decent ball into him in the box and he'll cause chaos. I said a few games ago, its no coincidence that his form dropped when we stopped playing 4-5-1 with at least one of Pilks/Bennett whipping crosses into him. As for getting in Jordan Rhodes, I'm not sure. Yes he's banging in goals in league one, but so was CMS and he's only managed 9 league goals this season, Beckford scored loads for Leeds in league one and flopped in the Premier League. I'd rather go for someone like Rodriguez who is scoring consistently at Championship level and has been for a couple of years now
howson, i'm sure, will grow and grow as a player. i thought yesterday was just 'one of those games' really - slow start, picked up a little momentum but couldn't find the equaliser and it was one of those '6 out of 10 for most' games. bennett was probably our best player along with ruddy.
