Even if he had those "dark side" influences I hope the lad recovers well and can get back to work...

It depends on the type and seriousness of stroke he's had and how quickly they were able to begin treatment. The faster you can start treating, the better chance of a good recovery, and it sounds like he was treat pretty quickly. It's a good sign he's communicating with people, so fingers crossed for a good recovery.
