    STEVE GALLEN LEAVES QPR

First Team Coach departs following 19 years’ service …

STEVE Gallen has left QPR after 19 years of employment with the club.

Gallen was named First Team Coach under former Head Coach Chris Ramsey in the summer of 2015, but the appointment of new Manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has seen a restructure of the First Team coaching staff.

Director of Football Les Ferdinand told www.qpr.co.uk: “We are sorry to see Steve leave. As is common with First Team football, a manager likes to bring in his own people.

“I have been in dialogue with Steve for several weeks as we sought to find him a role within the academy set-up, which is where a vast amount of his experience lies.

“Unfortunately we have been unable to offer Steve a role which he felt was right for him.

“Steve has been a huge part of this football club and we thank him sincerely for the incredible contribution he has made over the past two decades. We wish him every success in the future.”

Gallen’s coaching career with QPR began when he joined the club as a 23 year-old in 1997 to work in a part-time capacity with our under-12 age group.

It wasn’t long before Gallen moved up to coach the under-16s, and he spent a further four years with this age group before being offered a full-time role by the club in 2007, going on to work with the under-18s.

Throughout this period, Gallen worked with QPR youth product Raheem Sterling, who would go on to join Liverpool in 2010 at the age of 15.

Eighteen months later, Gallen was named the club’s Head of Youth Development.

Gallen even enjoyed a brief spell as caretaker manager of the First Team. Following Jim Magilton’s departure from the club in December 2009, Gallen oversaw QPR’s 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion.

In 2014, Gallen was named Under 21s Head Coach before Ramsey appointed him First Team Coach last summer.

During his time at QPR, Gallen won the FL Youth Alliance Cup (2010), FL Youth Alliance League (2011, 2012), the Professional Development League Two title (2013) and the Newark International Soccer Classic (2013) with the under-18s.

With the under-21s, Gallen reached the Professional Development League Two Play-Off final in 2014.

Everyone at QPR would like to thank Steve for his incredible passion, commitment and enthusiasm throughout his time at the club, and wish him every success in the future.

Not sure why a lot of people getting their knickers in a twist over this. Of course JFH would want his own coaching staff. If the club and Steve couldn't find a role suitable for both parties, that's just the way it goes. At least they tried to avoid just pushing him out (or so it seems).

Agree, just because the Gallen family and QPR have a long history, doesn't mean Steve was the best person, for what SLF & JFH needed going forward.

I think a lot of the problem here occurred in the previous three years after Sparky brought in the Man City Academy guys. They clearly had their agenda and Gallen was frozen out. It says a lot that he stuck it out whilst being totally undermined only to be given another slap in the face by Sir Les bringing Ramsey back as was always on the cards irrespective of JFH's appointment.

Not QPR's finest hour and perhaps with hindsight Gallen should have quit when several others went before him...

http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/spor...ews/qpr-dispense-coach-after-19-10811762Steve Gallen has finally left QPR after he was placed on gardening leave soon after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink joined.

The new Rs boss wanted his own backroom staff, and decided there was no room for a man who filled a number of roles in his time with Hoops.

It appears the brother of 1990's Rs hero Kevin decided a step back into the academy was not for him.

Director of Football Les Ferdinand told www.qpr.co.uk: “We are sorry to see Steve leave. As is common with first team football, a manager likes to bring in his own people.

This does not appear to be quite the stab in the back that we thought it was at first.
They offered Gallen a role, he thought it a backward step (which it was really..), he did not take it
Conversley, Ramsey was offered a role (which was definately a backward step) and he took it.

Gallen’s most recent role was that of first-team coach. He previously held a number of youth-coaching roles and managed the Under-18 and Under-21 teams at the club before being promoted last summer to work with the first team.
Rangers announced Gallen’s departure today but said they had tried to find him another role.
“QPR would like to thank Steve for his incredible passion, commitment and enthusiasm throughout his time at the club, and wish him every success in the future,” added Ferdinand

****ing hell, Kevin Gallen is an epistemologicist. I must rapidly re-evaluate my beliefs on the shape of the earth, effects of gravity, and all the laws of physics I glibly assume to be true. Thanks Kev!

Is this meant to imply that his brother, far from being offered another job, was taken round the back of the Harlington bike shed and given a wedgie by Les and Jimmy?

The way this club has been run over the last 4 years I wouldn't be surprised a wedgie has been given behind the bike shed, where else could it have been given ,behind the NEW TRAINING GROUND/STADIUM!

Just read an excellent article on the official website:

STEVE Gallen left QPR today after 19 years of service with only positive things to say about the club.

Having worked his way from under-12s coach in 1997 to first-team coach last summer, Gallen told
www.qpr.co.uk: “When I drive away from here I will be sad, for want of a better word.

“But I have got nothing but praise for the chairman, the whole Board, the first team staff, everyone, nothing but good things.”

Gallen’s departure comes following a restructure of the first-team coaching staff after the arrival of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. While disappointed to be moving on, Gallen was keen to stress he bears no ill-feeling regarding the changes.

“There’s none at all,” he said. “I have the upmost respect for Les (Ferdinand). When I was a young pro, he was a senior player here and I loved him. I looked up to the likes of him, Ray Wilkins, Andy Sinton, Alan McDonald. I will never forget how good they were to me.

“And when Les came back as Director of Football, I was delighted. It’s great to have QPR people here. And then Andy Sinton came back, Andrew Impey is here, Paul Furlong is here, it’s fantastic.

“All I want for Jimmy, David (Oldfield) and Dirk (Heesen) is for them to be successful. I like them. I only spent a short time working with them but I was very impressed by Jimmy’s mentality, his attitude and his thirst for work. He wants to win, and I like that.

“Looking at him as a coach, I like the way he operates and the way he holds himself.”

Gallen was also full of praise for chairman Tony Fernandes, admitting he was impressed by him the first day he met him at Harlington in 2011.

“That first day, the chairman spoke to everybody – the whole club,” Gallen said. “Straight away I liked him, he had so much enthusiasm.

“When he finished speaking to the whole group, he came straight over to me. He had never met me before, but he said: ‘Steve, here’s my card, make sure we are in touch.’ It was brilliant. The personal touch was great.

“I think he has been unbelievable. So positive, so upbeat and he wants to do well. It’s probably cost him a fortune at times, so fair play to him for putting his money where his mouth is.

“In terms of the youth department, he made a point to me on that first day about how important it was to him that we brought young players through. He pretty-much gave me his full backing, and I will never forget that.”
