STEVE Cotterill is open to the idea of bringing goalkeeper Simon Moore back to Bristol City on a season-long loan. Moore, who spent four months on loan at Ashton Gate earlier this year, returned to parent club Cardiff City in May. But his future remains unclear at the Cardiff City Stadium and he may yet begin next season behind David Marshall and Joe Lewis in the pecking order. City manager Cotterill has stated publicly his intention to sign a new goalkeeper during the summer recess and former Brentford stopper Moore features on a list of potential targets. Elliott Parish has been transfer-listed and Cotterill is seeking experienced competition for Frank Fielding. Moore's future in the Welsh capital will almost certainly be determined by the fate of Cardiff number one David Marshall. Cardiff player of the year Marshall remains under contract and has expressed his willingness to stay and play in the Championship next season. But he is sure to attract interest from bigger clubs after enjoying a stand-out season in the Premier League. Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal have all been linked with the 29-year-old Scotland international, who is valued at £13 million by Cardiff. Even if he is sold, there is still no guarantee Moore will feature in Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer first-team plans next season. Former Peterborough United and England Under-21 stopper Lewis could well become first choice in the event of Marshall leaving. Moore is desperate to play first-team football and would rather go out on loan to a League One club than warm the bench in the Championship. He enjoyed a reasonably successful loan spell at Ashton Gate during the second half of last season, helping the Robins escape the relegation zone and achieve a comfortable mid-table finish. He claimed the number one spot soon after arriving on loan from South Wales and only relinquished it to Fielding when sustaining a groin injury in a game at Leyton Orient. But Moore regained his place towards the end of the season, saving a penalty to earn the Robins a 1-0 win at Walsall and helping Cotterill's team stage an unbeaten five-match sequence.
Would be a great signing if he can pull it off. A lot more reliable than Fielding, who improved dramatically in the 2nd half of the season.
I consider that the comments about Moore and Fielding. highlight that we are a Third Division club and whoever we get in goal will have limitations. Each keeper will have some areas of their game better than the other but still limitations. Personally I believe Fielding will be good enough with a good under 21 as back up. Rather have more money to spend on wages for an extra midfielder or striker.
