SC has been released by the BRI having spent 33 days in there having tested positive for Covid on 1/1/2021. Some of that time in hospital was spent in Intensive Care. He will now continue his recovery and recuperation at home. Get well soon Steve !
I must admit I do like the bloke, I have to say he wasn’t my choice at the time either , boy did he make me eat humble pie. Great news , get well soon Steve
A very good manager for us in the third tier, that was a great season. I hope he makes a full recovery and does well for Shrewsbury.
We will never know how good he could have been in the championship, he fell out with SL in the summer, SL knew he couldn't sack him after such a successful season, so cut his legs off in the transfer market instead and then brought in Ashton and we are where we are, nothing changes apart from now we can mainly blame somebody else.
Oh what a load of waffle & rubbish that is and it's your opinion nothing more. Didn't see many championship clubs lining up for him once he left or since....think that shows the trust in his ability in this league and at this level...
Not at all how I recall it. SL backed him with a £9 or 10 Million bid (more than he's ever given any City manager in one go...) for Dwight Gayle, and then Andre Gray, Cotterill could not convince either to join. There were a lot of rumours that SC was a control freak and bully boy (much like the accusations against GJ at the end), so that coupled with poor form and stubbornness not to change tactics are what cost him his job at City.
Come on 1For, you know that you can only use that yardstick against LJ. I do laugh at the double standards of the LJ knockers on here, as this is exactly what they would, and have said about him, yet they think SC should be knighted for a promotion from the 3rd tier.....
Why water down and diminsh a mans achievment just because your man was sacked for failure, Cott's made us champions of that league and got us promotion to a higher league level, he also won a cup competition for us fans, we lived and enjoyed a fabulous year and I for one am greatful to him, better than 4 wasted and squandered years we suffered with the 2 following regimes. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/steve-cotterill-opens-up-old-3391422
No, show me? I don't see it? I assume you mean the post from 1For at 11:09am today? If so, there is nothing in that post that diminishes his achievements that I read? It's all factual if we got relegated he would be a good choice, as he been there and done that and got the t-shirt. The fact is, by your own yardstick of our 2 managers that succeeded him , he failed at Championship level, we were plummeting towards relegation when he was sacked. That doesn't tarnish what he achieved the season before, but it also doesn't mean he was a messiah as many on here seem to portray him...
If that is what was to happen, then yes, as has just been done to Dean Holden, SL feared relegation, and he's been fired. For God's sake LJ was fired for not getting to the play-offs, so yes, anything that threatens our Chapmopionship status should = the sack for the manager, even Saint Steve Cotterill...?
Cotterill delayed his holidays to set up deals for Harry Maguire and Andre Gray, the then CEO whilst SC was on holiday told SL that he could negotiate cheaper deals, ending up with Steve Bruce the then manager of Hull publicly stating that he would never conduct business with Bristol City again, because they tried to get an agreed fee lowered. Maguire was re promoted with Hull and went to Leicester and we know what happened to his career after and Gray's price went up by 50% from 6mil to 9mil in his transfer to Burnley and he scored 23 goals helping Burnley to promotion to the prem. Our transfers in were Kodjia, Garita (remember him?) and Ryan Fredericks who was subsequently transferred away from us 3 weeks later. In August we had to scrabble around for loans and brought in Callum Robinson, Ben Hamer, Liam Moore, Nathan Baker (who LJ spent 4.5 mil on), Elliott Bennet and Simon Cox. Robinson and Moore were young and untried, with the exception Baker the rest were run of the mill. Try to be honest, does look like a club with ambition supporting it's manager. The waffle and rubbish is about LJ's achievements, they are only achievements unique to BCFC's past history in the championship, but will never appear as real achievements as in winning promotions etc.
LJ was sacked for not getting us to the play offs and taking us backward from January 2018 onwards. Before slagging off SC you should read what I have just posted in reply to Onefer.
