I've just read some quotes from Brucey; âI think they (Quinn,Short) are sensible enough to know the job I have done over the last two years,â he said. âTwo years ago they were nearly relegated on the last game. But we got to our third-best position in 55 years last season and they realise we have made big changes (since). âWe had a bad result against Newcastle which has created this frenzy and there is nothing we can do about that. âI still believe we will finish above Newcastle and thatâs the aim, but in some peopleâs eyes that is not enough and the one-off game is all that matters.â Sound scarily familiar to anyone? Maybe I've a twin me Mam forgot to mention. Well he may have got international fame and a bag full of trophys in his playing days. I however got the looks.
why is he so obsessed about finishing above Newcastle? If that's his only ambition then he should **** off
It makes me cringe like nothing else when a professional football manager makes finishing above a rival club one of his main aims for the entire season. Imo he should just keep his gob shut on that front. It stops some people cringing, and it means that if you guys do finish above us he can still brag, but if you don't, then he hasn't given anyone any ammunition with quotes like these. Saying it and digging himself a little hole (which could get a whole lot bigger) just serves zero purpose.
He didn't say it was a main aim. He said it's a aim which undoubtedly, it is. As is finishing above quite a few others in this division. Can you Chappaz not say it would be nice to finish above us. Bet you've forgot what it feels like to be North East's number one.
you boys say europe so being top dogs again would bring us europe. you have to aim high or fans get on your back we know the derby is your fa cup final game to me its just 3 points. he just hates the skunks get over it chappaz
Sounds to me like it's one of his main aims. Plus, he didn't mention anything about any other ambitions. He just highlighted finishing above us in a press interview before the season has barely begun. It's quite clear to me that it's one of his main targets, and I think we can all admit that, but it shouldn't be. A nice bonus, yes, but a target? Come on. Anyway, I'd love for us to finish above you guys, but I'm a fan. As a fan, I wouldn't want the manager of my club making comments like these which show a lack of ambition and provide ammunition for the rival fans. I wouldn't like it if Pardew did it and I can't see why you would like it if Bruce did it, but maybe you do. Each to their own I guess. And this isn't a dig at you guys or your club. Just Bruce. Well we currently are, so it's quite fresh in my memory I know he does. Cestria wouldn't think so, mind.
So you wanna talk about cringeworthy quotes from managers then? Que Keegan: 'The 33 or 34-year-olds will be 36 or 37 by the time the next World Cup comes around, if they're not careful.' 'I want more from David Beckham. I want him to improve on perfection.' 'The Germans only have one player under 22, and he's 23' 'I'll never play at Wembley again, unless I play at Wembley again' 'England have the best fans in the world and Scotland's fans are second-to-none' 'Shaun Wright-Phillips has got a big heart. It's as big as him, which isn't very big, but it's bigger' 'Luis Figo is totally different to David Beckham, and vice versa' 'I don't think there's anyone bigger or smaller than Maradona.' 'The good news for Nigeria is that they're two-nil down very early in the game' 'There's a slight doubt about only one player, and that's Tony Adams, who definitely won't be playing tomorrow.' 'Argentina won't be at Euro 2000 because they're from South America.' 'He'll also be very dangerous from set-pieces. That means he'll be a threat from free-kicks and corners in the final third of the field.' 'They're the second best team in the world, and there's no higher praise than that.' 'We deserved to win this game after hammering them 0-0 in the first half' And im pretty sure Pardew has a few belters too Jog on Chappaz you tit
For **** sake Why does everything I say have to be a competition? IT ISN'T A COMPETITION. This isn't Newcastle vs Sunderland and it isn't a dig. Newcastle has aaaabsolutely nothing to do with this apart from in the context of the thread. If a Man City fan came on here and made a post I'm sure you wouldn't dig up some Mancini quotes and turn it into a competition, so why you persistently do it with me I have no idea. You're an absolute moron beyond all proportions.
Nice rape quote by Pardew haha what a tosser!
Oh right, you're one of those. My mistake. Maybe you should apologise to Cyprus for derailing his thread (and yet another Sunderland thread) and turning it into a pointless petty attack.
Haha, I can actually remember the daft **** coming out wi some of those. Chappy, you're slipping into **** crack mode again chum.
Which bad result against Newcastle is he talking about? It can't be the last one because there was a 'frenzy' to get him out at the end of last season. The three bad results against Newcastle put together isn't what's causing the protests - it's a bad run that's lasted from February to September. Please don't tell me we won three out of our last five in April/May - a little blip of wins is as important as a little blip of losses. The problem is Bruce's bad blips are rather more than little. They last for months on end. I'm sorry, but lame excuses like the Newcastle game just won't wash.
Ahh you're one of those people who thinks everything I say is a purposeful dig. I see. Exactly how the hell am I supposed to say anything negative about anything I find wrong? Or am I only allowed to say nice things on here? Get a grip man. As I've already said, I'm criticising Bruce, not the fans or the club. I didn't realise you were so defensive of the guy. Couldn't care less mate. If people like/tolerate me when I say honest positive things about Sunderland, but start hating me and calling me a WUM when I say honest negative things, then so be it. I'll just keep having my honest viewpoint. Anyway, if you're all done I'll bow out of this thread as, for the sake of others, it's pointless derailing it beyond all hope.
Ive got to agree with Bruce. A good show against Liverpool. Played well against Newcastle but did not put the chances away, that was playing with 10 men because Gyan was not interested. Brighton, bad result, played the wrong team because he left Gyan out for reasons we now know. Swansea a decent point away from home considering we again had Gyan not trying on the pitch. Chelsea, again not a terrible performance losing 2-1 to a very good side who did get some luck in the game. We had a new striker who had trained 2 days with the other lads. Tomorrow there can be no excuses, its a team we should beat at home, apart from Bardo everyone it fit so we will see what Bruce and his new team are made of.
to be fair to chappaz he seems to talk sense, definately not a wum. I think you's should agree to disagree
