Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has vowed that young players will continue to get a chance next season despite having a busy summer in the transfer market ahead. Bruce has already signed Keiren Westwood, Sebastian Larsson and South Korea international striker Ji Dong-won. The Black Cats are also linked with a host of other players, including Manchester United trio Darron Gibson, Wes Brown and John O'Shea, Connor Wickham, Craig Gardner and Charles N'Zogbia. The influx of new players could hit double figures as Bruce spends the money raised from the sales of Darren Bent and Jordan Henderson. But Bruce maintains that young Black Cats will get chances in the first-team, just as Henderson did. He said: "I have got a few young lads bubbling underneath who have impressed me and who have got a chance. "A lot of them can expect to be going out on loan next season because I haven't wavered from that view - that you send your young lads out on loan and see how they stand up to it. "It didn't do Jordan or Jack any harm, and it's another part of young players' education in the modern game. "Then, when they come back from their loans, you hope that they have come on another step. "I hope that will prove to be the case with the current crop of lads, because I think there are some exciting young players and we acknowledged that by regularly including a few in our first-team squad towards the end of the [last] season. "I don't think anyone doubts we have now got a busy summer ahead of us in the transfer market, but it won' be at the expense of players coming through. "If the young lads prove they are good enough, they will get their chance - just like Jordan and Jack did."
Too right as well! It always gives me an extra sense of pride when you see lads progressing from the youth system.
His record in the youth team and reserves is outstanding. Although, I've heard he's got a bit of a ****e attitude. Anyone know owt about this?
For me its that little taster from Colback that made me sit up and I cant wait to see how he grows next season.
Dont know about attitude mate bit a little birdie told me he likes to play the slot machines and is a bit hooked on them.
The most pleasent surprise of last season Syd. Young Jack took his chance when it was presented to him, so deserves a starting place in the team if he shows the same form in pre season. If he can maintain that form through the coming season, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the big boys sniffing about. Should that happen, I think he will command a higher price than what Jordan Henderson went for, because for me, he was better than Jordan. I would like to think that the club would keep this lad rather than sell him on, but I suppose this is just wishful thinking!

But the Black Cats are planning to make several more - and in some cases, higher profile - signings before the new Barclays Premier League season as they await answers from Manchester United trio Darron Gibson, Wes Brown and John O'Shea and continue to pursue their interests in the likes of Connor Wickham, Craig Gardner and Charles N'Zogbia. Bruce's recruitment drive could yet extend to double figures as he attempts to replace big-money departures Darren Bent and Jordan Henderson, as well as strengthen the squad which finished in 10th place at the end of the last injury-hit campaign.
