I thought I would give this a new thread. I think all of us have a lot of faith in Steve and when he speaks, we listen closely to him. He has only ever had the clubs best interests at heart. So this is what he has been saying off late in response to Twitter questions. https://twitter.com/#!/SteveCMB Here are some of the interesting bits.... Of the £100m how much do you estimate will be available for the squad? Will the budget be double this years as an example? @SteveCMB ‏ it will be substantial that all important Asian market which has supported us to the 1927 FA cup and many other achievements (!!!) ‏ @SteveCMB no saved us from oblivion paid to ensure we played Blackpool in playoffs subsidised last two seasons and took us to Wembley so hand on heart you believe it's impossible to be a successful team and wear blue? @SteveCMB I think with malky if we played in my pink kit we could be successful. I believe we have a winner with in him surely we should await official statement before petitions and the like too many assumptions and knee jerk reactions. Need to read @SteveCMB agreed but as this was leaked it has not been possible are you saying marches and demos will drive VT away? What are his thoughts on the initial reaction on the messageboards? @SteveCMB i believe people need to be measured in their reaction in 5 years time the owners will get bored & we will be playing league 1 football to an empty stadium. Coventry (CCFC) the 2nd! @SteveCMB if we get promoted and established I could see us being floated on a far east exchange @SteveCMB Why cant they just engage with us fans and come to an agreement? get the dragon involved, but don't let it dominate the club @PaulBeasley I think Tg will
If it means Premier League and years of success then changing the colour of kit is a small price to pay it seems
Steve is CCFC through and through but also a business man. He understands what needs to be done on and off the pitch. I hope those against the proposal will listen to him as a voice for reason. The more radical will never change until the fruits of the proposal are harvested then they will go quiet.
I hope that if this all goes ahead I can come around to the way that some off you are thinking I.E Sheepy and Sparks but at this moment in time I just can’t see it being easy to accept. We are who we are because off what we have been and to try and change over 100 years off history all in one go is far too big a pill to swallow. Yes we have had change before after all we haven’t always played in blue nor have we always been called Cardiff City FC let along the bluebirds but with whole sale changes like this in one go I cant help but read your comment sheep and think if its that small a price to pay to watch top notch football you could have wore white travelled 40 odd minutes and watched 19 premier games this season. Yes you would have to Chant common you Swans or Jack army but hey ho its still a welsh club and local so not a lot wrong with it I guess. No No No cause I like Blue I like Bluebirds I like our history I Love the fact we have battled our way threw tough times to save what we are now. By the way Sheep you know I love you and the work you do on here I am just playing devils advocate with your comment to show why I can’t see it as you do at the moment.
This is the modern game and deep down I despise those who now run football, from the Murdoch empire to the foriegn and home grown owners but to survive there is no alternative other than to accept change. My club changed forever when we left our spiritual home Ninian Park, I have no affinity for CCS but again there was no alternative if we all want to progress further.
Agreed the move from the old lady its self was hard to accept and I still feel we are paying the price for that in atmosphere if not extra support. At least though when we made that move we kept our other features I.E stand names seat design to try and make it feel like HOME. So yes we moved and times change but when we made that move the board could see that they had to retain certain features for it was our history and despite the need to progress a clubs history is important. If they could see that then what’s different now?
ccfcrt0p! I feel we left a lot of our physical identity behind on 25th April 2009 in that 3 - 0 home defeat to Ipswich Town. That day I believe we sacrificed our unique atmosphere, my right to stand on a terrace at games and the Bob Bank (Ninian Stand my arse). They may change physical aspects, and as paymasters that is their right but they will never erase memories. Let's take their money for now and see what the future holds.
ccfc - different board now or at least different people at the top. However, we are not foregoing our history. It is there good and bad and can never be taken away. We will always be Cardiff City. We play in different colours on away trips and apart from the odd comment (about the black strip recently worn and some reservations over the white strip) we have got on with it without any real debate. What we have here is an opportunity to improve the future and secure our club. Surely as an end result that is what we all want? It is not at any price as we keep our name, our club, our ground and position in football. There is the potential that we risk all of that if we do not back the owners. I still believe there is room for some negotiation here. I cannot see the owners backing themselves completely into a corner with no room to move. However, if the People's Front for the Liberation of the Bluebird (PFLB) keep up their tirade and very public rants then both sides become isolated and no one has anywhere to go. That is in on one's interest.
Again you are correct but I thought we had been told that in recent years the club had made great strides into the debt and things were improving I.E Langston although still there not a threat, the tax man paid and happy, big player wages gone, big manager wages and bonuses gone, no need to sell our stars transfer fees paid no embargo. Then on top off all that good work we have heard about we have had playoff games in the last 3 years a cup final at Wembley good cup runs. 3 mill was apparently gone to be spent on one player in January. Now all off a sudden it’s rebrand or go bust 70 mill in debt not the 27 or 35 that was quoted when they first came in. For me there is more than meets the eye here I whilst I wont stay away if this dose go ahead I will sleep with one eye open (by the way I will be easy to spot next season with my old blue shirts my blue seat cover) LOL. Again on a serious note if it has to be then so be it but surely certain things don’t need whole sale changes. Why not have a red away kit with a dragon on the badge but a bluebird still on the collar or sleeves. Also yes get a Welsh red theme in the ground but by introducing red dragons behind each goal or in the seats surrounded by the blue seats.
I don't think it's a question of being happy in accepting the proposals, it's more the lack of a viable alternative to sustain the club. The proposals, as difficult as they are to come to terms with, promise progress for the club instead of at best stagnation, at worst no club to support. This belief by some that if we (the other directors and supporters) tell them to piss off, there'll be a queue of other investors outside the CCS with similar proposals but we can continue play in blue is ludicrous. This club is (was) on it's arse with debt through the profligacy of the Hamman years - no one is going to pump money into that bottomless pit without a real reason. That reason is the business acumen of VT and his associates who have a vision for the club throughout Asia, and are willing to take the initiative. The queue of altruistic investors out there is pretty short fellas.
But again Ninian stand to remember what we left behind History so again yes a change but one that thought about the history that was there before.
Loved Ninian Park. However lets get rid of some myths. I was a kid mid 80's. For the vast majority of time up to Sam Hammams arrival the atmosphere at the ground was dire (far worse than now) and the football was worse. Some of the utter garbage I watched in a empty stadium with pockets of fans just having a chat while a team of free transfer journeyman got hammered by rubbish like Hereford , Shrewsbury and the likes. Sometimes I couldnt even drag myself out of the pub and ended up strolling in with 20 minutes to go. Away trips were totally different. Well not totally - football was mostly rubbish. But it was a day out with your mates and had some great times. People using the stadium as an excuse for loss of atmosphere are looking at NP through rose tinted spectacles. Fans make the atmosphere. Those who want to go into admin get relegated back to League 2 will soon remember how bad NP was with 2000 crowds. Ive done that and never want it again.
Take your point on board Hilts and I too have been there with the low crowds and poor atmosphere but that place when bumping was a little different to our current home this I hope will change in the future as we build a new history. Despite all that I have said I am not against change and by far one off these that would prefer to be back in Div 3 in front off 2000. I just worry that this is too much change all at once and it won’t feel like my club any more.
Just a personal preference regarding Ninian Park. 4 years on I still call it the Bob Bank...probably always will. Do I want those days back? not on your life. We've progressed as a club and it seems these proposals will help us to continue to progress/survive and as far as I'm concerned thats the most important thing.
What will be will be I suppose? On a serious note though the comment I made about the cash have we or have we not improved our situation. Am I the only one that is a little surprised that we NEED this rebrand to continue. I genuinely thought that the money situation had improved drastically.
