Steve Avory has stepped down as academy director at [HASHTAG]#cafc[/HASHTAG] after nearly 25 years of
service.
He will remain in an advisory role. Joe Gomez, Ezri Konsa and Ademola Lookman just some of the recent success
stories. Academy boss Tom Pell will lead the
academy moving forward.

Hmmmmm, I'm not liking this.

Scott has failed in two years where Avory has succeeded in twenty years.

Steve Avory will be a hard act to follow. He and his Academy Coaches have brought through a whole long line of excellent players. Shelley, Lookman, Gomez, Konsa etc. You will be missed.

Terrible news for Charlton. I guess question is why and does this suggest he was unhappy with the club’s leadership?

My first reaction would be to doubt it.
Avory put up with Duchatelet, both incarnations of ESI and Sandgaard.

However, if SE7 are trying to interfere with running of the academy in some manner that none of those previous reprobates tried before - some manner that particularly angers Steve Avory - then that might explain it.

But if that is the case, would he agree to stay in an advisory role? (assuming we're being told the truth about that).

I think you’re probably right on reflection. Not sure of his age but might just be wanting to take it a bit easier
