I know he only got 10/15 minutes last night, but was anyone else as impressed as I was? He's only 16, but was dancing around opponents and he sent in a wicked cross. Not to mention the fact that he's grown a lot recently and he had some good tackles. I am really hoping he will get some game time (in cups) this season, just so I can see him play some more, because from what I've seen he's a superb winger (even if what I've seen is against a mediocre Norwegian side). What do you lot think of him?
I was impressed with him. The only part of his game i feel he needs to improve, is his predictability. By this i mean 8/10 times he will cut inside rather than go down the byline. I must of watched him play 30 or 40 times and he always cuts in. Yes it works at times and he has scored some great goals doing this and im sure working with KK and SC he can easily adapt to a more unpredictable approach to his game. I really do hope he gets some game time this season as i believe he is very close to taking the step up
I reckon he will feature in the carling cup for two reasons. One reason is he's an unknown quantity and the other reason is that I believe that he's like John Flanagan and Jack Robinson from last season in that he has no fear. He looks like he can make the step up. The reason being confidence. Some players may have had the size and the physique, but may not have had the confidence or self belief, which there is nothing wrong with as long as it doesn't develop into an ego.
looks like SWP to me..lets hope he's better at dribbbling because SWp's tatic was push it past a defender and run.Would like to see more of him and hope he reaches his full potential.
I'm impressed with how he uses his pace to beat defenders. If stayed around the wings more often rather than cutting in all the time he'd really improve his game. A change in pace and unpredictably for a player who can beat defenders is deadly.
Is he a left footer? I know he seems to be played on the left wing a lot and cut inside, but I've not seen too much of him. Maybe he'd do well on the right instead?
Oh, ok. I just thought with him cutting inside he might prefer his right foot. Although I expect he can use both when needed.
I like him, I think we've got a couple of good youngsters who could make a few cameo's this season, such as Ayala, Pachenco and Amoo (loans allowing). All the more reason to get shot of the likes of El Zahr and N'gog who are going to get no better for us.
He's a massive prospect. Hopefully he can break into the fist-team in the next couple of years! Some cup games would be good for him this season.
Interesting to see which of our youngsters develop this season and push for squad places. Surely seeing the likes of Kelly, Spearing, Flanagan and Robinson given chances must give these lads extra incentive and belief that with hard work and a good attitude they will be given some game time this year. Good luck to them all, the more competition for places the better as far as I'm concerned.
He's right footed but is decent with his left, hence starting his career on the right, the comments about him cutting in when he plays on the left, and his goals most recently for England! Also for the guy comparing him to SWP... basically he's small and black. Comparisons stop there. Huge talent!
Sterling is 16 and if he looks about 12 thats not too bad. SWP looks 12 and is hitting 30,now thats strange.
Spot on. Since playing on the left he cuts inside far too often in my opinion. I know that's the modern game for wingers, but i do like to see a good old fashioned burst down the line I say put him back on the right and treat him like a traditional winger.
